He's the most talented player you can realistically get. We are at a point where we ABSOLUTELY have to take these kinds of risks. Also BOB should see this as an opportunity to pick one of the brightest minds in football, Art Briles. "Hey Art this is Bill O'Brien. I wanted to ask a few questions about RGIII completely off the record.." "You know I really like what you're doing over there at Baylor the way you're always maximizing space on the field, I feel like the threat of RGIII's running ability and his deep ball really stands out more in your system than a system that is focused on quick, accurate intermediate throws like what Gruden brought to the Redskins..." Then just wait for him to talk.
It's funny how the casual fan thinks about the draft and free agents. Draft: When draft grades come out, the teams with the best draft grades immediately following the draft are typically the ones who picked up guys who fell in the draft. Like for example the Cowboys taking Randy Gregory...or the Texans taking Louis Nix in the 3rd when he was supposed to go higher. This ignores why they fell. Free agents: Casual fans think fallen angels like RGIII are good options, ignoring the reasons why they fell from grace.
I don't think anyone feels that RG3 is a good option. More like, of all the Qb's available he's got the best chance of possibly being decent until the rookie that is drafted is ready (unless hopefully the team gets lucky and drafts someone that can step in) The good options (Rivers/Brees) won't be available.
Good thing we have "more-than-a-casual-fan" bigtexxx to enlighten us on who all the good options are.
Also need to consider other possible reasons for falling from grace…poor coaching, poor support, etc… Example: Carson Palmer as a Raider. Just because one player is currently broken, doesn't mean he can't be fixed.
While I agree with you on his poor coaching and that he can be fixed, I don't think it would be with BOB and his wants from a QB. If anything I think he needs to look at San Fran or backing up Cam/Russel. Those coaches would know how to use RG3 better than BOB IMO.
there is no reason why RG3 cant be a Russel Wilson type.. the guy has a lot of talent I really hope he can get it together this year
This would be a nice place for him to try once again. RG3 is light years ahead off Hoyer (actually any qb on this roster.) He however has some personal demons he has to address. It would be amazing for him to turn his career around, and would love it if it was here...but Im not holding my breath...
I dont understand the negativity towards him… It's not like the Texans are only targeting him and banking on the fact that he will lead us to a Superbowl. The Texans need a QB…if it means they have to draft two QBs along with bringing in three free agents, so be it. At this point, the Texans need to just give as many people as possible the opportunity to take over the reigns for next season. If RG3 doesn't pan out, I highly doubt it will ruin our cap. It's a low risk, high reward situation. There is no reason not to take a look.
If anything, BOB has shown to be able to coach up talent…and these last couple years are his proof. BOB's downfall is being stuck on guys he's coached in the past…but there is no question that he gets the most out of the guys he coaches.
Their offense hasn't been too good the last couple years. Its really the defense that has carried them.
Why stop at RG3? I hear Josh Gordon wants to be reinstated. Let's bring him home and reunite him with his Baylor buddy
