Wait - you're saying Texas allowed open carry in psychiatric hospitals but not other places since 2003 (I'm not familiar with the details of our gun laws)? Is it not odd that even the head of the Open Carry people in Texas think it should be reconsidered?
Why don't you research the articles you post a bit more? I'm not sure what you mean by "but not other places" The enforcement mechanism went into place in September. The scuttlebutt back then was about the Zoo.
I mean Open Carry became legal as of January 1st in Texas. You're saying it was already legal at psych hospitals (either that, or you're pointing out concealed carry was legal, which is not what the article was about, but is a good way to distract if you don't want to discuss the issue). I'm curious of the disconnect. So is apparently everyone else given that there the quotes from everyone from legislators to state officials to open carry advocates to mental health advocates are voicing concerns about this. So, quite clearly, a lot of people didn't know that it was already legal or they are specifically concerned about the "open" part of the open carry. http://www.usatoday.com/story/news/2016/01/08/texas-open-carry-psychiatric-hospital/78522138/ http://www.mystatesman.com/news/news/guns-now-allowed-in-texas-state-run-psychiatric-ho/npztT/ Licensed gun owners can now bring their firearms into Texas’ 10 state psychiatric hospitals. Until this year, guns were banned at the state-run facilities, which house people with serious mental illnesses. No one — visitors, delivery people and the like — could bring firearms anywhere on the hospitals’ campuses. Even local law enforcement officers, who were allowed to bring their weapons into the facilities, regularly lock up their guns before entering Austin State Hospital out of an abundance of caution. That isn’t expected to change. But state officials say two new laws made it clear to them that they can’t keep guns off the hospitals’ campuses. The open carry law allows gun license holders to openly carry their firearms. A second law fines state agencies for wrongly hanging “no guns” signs. ... News that the state’s firearm ban at the hospitals had been lifted, first reported by the American-Statesman, caused concern both from opponents of the new gun laws and from the state’s biggest gun rights supporters.
This is the enforcement mechanism I was trying to inform you of. It went into effect in September. I'm not sure why you think I am trying to distract. I told you which articles to research, if you want to be misinformed feel free also. Most of you know almost nothing about gun laws.

The dude on the right has his finger on the trigger... Wtf, if I saw some dudes carrying guns like that I would ****ing jet. I'm already paranoid at movie theaters I don't need to be looking over my shoulders at stores and parks too. What about bars?(That are pro open carry) Are people who carry weapons allowed to get drunk? D-bags carrying AK's getting drunk can't go possibly go well.
If you really wanted to know you could google it. Unless you are posting by sending Clutch a telegram and having him input it in the computer for you. In that case I apologize and tip my bowler hat.
This is copied directly from state agency policy: Exceptions With the exception of authorized personnel who are employed as certified peace officers, employees licensed to carry a handgun under Chapter 411, Texas Government Code are prohibited from openly carrying their handguns while wearing clothing emblazoned with an HHS agency or system logo, seal or lettering. Employees licensed to carry a handgun are prohibited from carrying their handgun (concealed or openly): • at a DADS State Supported Living Center; • at a DSHS State Hospital; • at the DARS Criss Cole Rehabilitation Center; • during home visits; • during visits to licensed facilities, child advocacy centers, contracted providers’ sites, private residences, or family violence shelters.
Open carry is not allowed at bars, restaurants, and other establishments where 51 percent of their revenue comes from alcohol sales.
Looks there's some backfire to OC now. A lot of places that are putting up 30.07 signs are putting up 30.06 signs too so no guns allowed no matter what. Nice job gun crazies.
Sounds like owners and their customers didn't have general awareness of CC and OC is bringing awareness to both.
