Do you think being Jewish will hurt him? It has not come up yet that I know of . . . but I expect it Rocket River
Chump change compared with the threat of starting wars, repealing healthcare or scraping the social safety net. That's what people worry about when they aren't distracted by hot button non-issues.
doubt it. Being mormon didn't hurt Romney. People's perception that he's out of touch economically would be his downfall if he actually stood a chance. That scares people.
you wouldn't give him props even on domestic policy? (but let's not derail -- he's not running this time!)
Hillary is your classical Politician. She will deceive to maintain her image. And she will do what is in her best interest or self preservation. This flies in the face of the truth. Trump on the other hand tells the truth, but it's so inflammatory and dangerous it's downright scary. Without a guiding issue on which to elect a president, which most voter don't seem to have, I would think the general public will take the safety of Clinton given that even with all of Bill's faults, much the same as Hillary, the country made it through his term successfully with no harm done. The country is used to deceptive politicians. It's not scary. It's somewhat normal. Hillary will maintain an image of professionalism no matter what is going on inside. So I think Hillary in-spite of all the deception will win.
I fully agree with what you have to say. At this point in time, I am favoring Hillary. We need less "in your face" candidates and more pragmatic candidates who are willing to find common ground. When we have such a polarized based like we do now, blaming Bush and blaming Republicans only gets you spiteful opposition. If Hillary goes down this path, I will be very disappointed. 8 years of blaming everyone else has grown very old. This is why Obama has been a mediocre president; He is great at community organization and building opposition. His whole presidency has been about blaming someone else and playing the victim.
His whole Presidency has been about getting stuff done. While you may not agree with them, he has more significant and wide-ranging policy achievements than arguably any President since FDR. Everything from domestic landmarks like stimulus, healthcare and fin-reg to the repeal of DADT to foreign policy landmarks like START, Cuba, and the Iran deal - these are transformations that most people didn't think were remotely even possible and have often been fought over for years or decades. All of this was done while coming to office in one of the most precarious situations of any President in generations - in the midst of the biggest and most sudden economic collapse since the 1930's and the longest war in our history.
Considering the perpetual roadblock in Congress, it's amazing just how much he *has* accomplished. He's left the country better than he found it, that's good enough for me.
What a simplistic, one-sided answer. Obama was too lazy and too incompetent to work across the aisle. He wasn't willing to get into the details and roll up his sleeves to work.
You're a simplistic, one-sided assclown. We all know you're smarter, but you just keep playing the little kid troll game. It's cool, I guess you need a hobby or something.
You tried to pass off a simplistic, "aw shucks" style comment like "he left the country better than he found it, and that's good enough for me." Then you got bothered because I called you out on it? And you start up with the name calling? Grow up. Obama presided over a historically bad recovery after a recession. His "results" largely came from the Fed monetary easing. He is leaving an absolute disaster in the middle east which has resulted in terrorist attacks on the American homeland. We're certainly not safer than when he took office, that's clear. edit: and race relations are truly atrocious in America right now!
He did some good things (he wasn't preachy about morality, he promoted legalization of weed, he promoted gay and trans issues, he wasn't a complete warmonger, he started working with Iran, broke down the barrier with Cuba, and made the greatest presidential stock market call of all time near the bottom of the market...I'm forgetting some things) but he failed on major issues where things could have been accomplished (gun control, healthcare, American militarism in the Middle East, drone strike accountability, social security, dismantling control of the too big to fail banks, and other stuff I am probably forgetting). Obama has been disappointing to me. I think the way he approached things helped give his opposition resolve. His opposition is nuts and only wants to just b**** and moan and be overly dramatic with no real solutions though. However, Obama generally tried to do too much at once when incremental, rather than revolutionary, change would have been better. I do agree the country is in a better place than where he found it, but that is a pretty low bar.
I know you are a character on the internet, but this kind of drama is the problem. I don't agree with Obama's Middle East policy, however I'm pretty sure you and I don't agree on how to proceed in the Middle East either. Anyhow, how many Americans have died in terrorist attacks, war, and violent crime under Obama? I'm willing to bet it is less than under Bush. So why exactly do you think we are less safe now? If you believe that then I think you are being far too heavily influenced by the media versus reality.
Making changes for the sake of making changes is not necessarily a good thing. Obama's presidency has been littered with such policies. Many of Obama's success has relied on the birth of social media. The more accurate assessment is that the US was ready to come out of the extreme Christian culture, not because Obama has made great strides. The proof is that in 2008, the US was going to elect either a black president or a woman. This would have been scoffed at a few years earlier. Gay activists had worked hard over the years to make the strides they did, not Obama. The only thing Obama did was not be an obstructionist to socially liberal agendas. I do give him kudo's for Cuba, but even that had to do with Castro being replaced. Obama will be known for the failure of Obamacare (which will likely be twisted in revisionist history) and having one of the worst congresses ever, another reflection on his inner political policies.
History will look kindly on Obama. Very kindly. Some of you are just going to have to accept that fact. If you would've come to grips with the fact that he was voted POTUS in the first place then it wouldn't even be an issue.
Reagan's era featured massive tax overhaul & the end of the Cold War. We had already passed a Stimulus package and TARP before Obama took office, so I don't know how landmark the one passed shortly after he took office was. Most of what he did, he didn't need Congress. When you take office in bad times, you generally leave it better off.
What Obama did that was most helpful to the home owners was the restructuring of the home loans to allow for refinancing the mortgages that were so predatory previously.
Keep moving those goalposts... Obama is/was at least an average president. I don't think folks appreciate how low we were at when Obama entered office.
