Yes... and now Noah is unhappy with Hoiberg and wants to be dealt.

All these teams that steered away from hard nosed fundamental coaches are doing pretty bad. Malone, thibs, Adelman, Hollins... were all good coaches. Too bad this analytic era is killing the NBA.

You get 2 maybe 3 seasons tops to win big with a hard nosed coach. The players will not take it for longer than that. If you win big you gain a season or two but you have to do it again soon.

The kiss of death for a players coach is exactly what happened to Mchale... a talented team that looks disinterested.

I prefer the hard nosed coach with a hard nosed star player combination but we don't have that player IMO.

The reliance on analytics and the trend towards player-friendly coaches are overlapping, but not related.

Can we pick this man up now? After tonights rotations and failure to execute do we still believe this guy named Bickerstaff was the right move. We have the players to do damage but we're wasting their talent away because the coach has no idea what to do with these guys. Does Morey honestly think these players will not respect Thibs? It is just pathetic.

He's waiting until after the season so he can ask Harden who he and Durant want the coach to be.

If people cannot see that this team is basically a product of multiple seasons with a coach that instilled no gameplan on offense or defense, held no one accountable, and failed in preparation then I do not know what to say.

Morey's provided the talent, extremely good talent. But what we're seeing is basically years of years of no structure, discipline, or accountability. Each year as we added significant more talent, this year included with Ty Lawson, but this year we went back because our top player had no more to prove.

I really blame us not firing McHale after the Portland series; that was our chance to bring in someone that could've disciplined our team and prepared our team.

That's certainly part of it. I do think 4 years of McHale letting the inmates run the asylum(although a lot of those original "inmates" aren't even here anymore) did set a tone with this organization that the coach was irrelevant and the players could do as they please.

But most of this team is the same as last year's. And last year, they played good defense. They hustled for loose balls. Harden had an MVP-caliber season. They beat quality teams including on the road.

The crappy coaching is an issue. But I think there's more going on. I think Harden has no fire this season and that's trickling down to his teammates. I think after Brewer got paid last summer, his focus is completely gone. Lawson is a bad fit. Ariza and Dwight are starting to decline physically. And T-Jones is erratic even by his standards sometimes because he knows he's playing for a new contract.

I do believe a far better coach like Thibs would make a huge difference, but even Zombie Red Auerbach can't get Harden to play with a burning desire to win every night. That's gotta come from within James himself. And I have a bad feeling he's just not that kind of player.

    Excellent post. Four marks.

Maybe Harden knows this season belongs to one of four teams not named the Rockets, but for whatever reason, he's loafing, and so goes the rest of the team.

I knew when Lawson checked into the game that we would lose. He's Harden's kryptonite.

Thibs lit fire under Harden last season to play defense with effort. That's who James credited after playing with national team in off season.

Yet Thibs is always the guy that Yao has credited for making him a dominant big in the post, not JVG, but Thibs.

Best big defending PnR, perimeter and switching. He may not be shot blocker but he bothers a lot of shots at rim with his length. Very underrated defender.

You shouldn't have to hire a drill sergeant to get a player to play hard. The player is making millions to play a game. The problem is the player.

Also, drill sergeant coaches may work over a short period, but then the players tune out the coach and go back to being who they really are. The problem is the player.

The all time great players have something in them that makes them play hard. They don't need a coach to hold them accountable. They hold themselves accountable. The problem is the player.

Who cares what happens in 3-5 years. Rockets were in WCF last season, the opportunity is NOW not in 3 years.

I think Thibs will take on the Nets job only if they promise him GM power or at least significant say on the signings and decisions. There is no way he will agree to take over with Prokhy and his shadow russian gm doing whatever stupid move they want.

Besides it seems that the New Orleans job will be available pretty soon and so will Phoenix. I can see Thibs being very interested in coaching AD.
