That's the thing. A lot of people around here seem to think that we can trade our garbage for gold. I wouldn't be surprised if there were no trades at all.

Well what Moreys point is that the hypothetical return for say James Harden is going to be a lesser player than last year's James Harden.

Same holds true for guys like Lawson, Brewer, Jones etc.

We traded one of these guys for a poor return they could hypothetically return to form

I'm not looking to trade our garbage for gold, I'm looking to pawn off our garbage on someone else for whatever we can get for it just so that we don't have to deal with it anymore

You're talking more about coaches, than GMs. GMs work all Summer, too, probably moreso that during the season (like, forget the 4th of July)...so they have to take some time off sometime. And even at that, this isn't like the NFL where xmas vacation is right in the middle of playoff positioning. I'm sure Morey takes a few days off. It's the best time of the season to do it.

If you're going to suggest things based on pure speculation (Morey was avoiding the media and his twitter account while at work), then let me. My speculation is GMs have a self-imposed, trade moratorium from Xmas to NYs, to take some personal time.

    How's that?

Why are we assuming Morey was talking about trading his garbage? I didn't get that from the quote.

Jones is not garbage. He also won't do addition by subtraction wrt Lawson like Denver did. And I'm sure he's discussing DMo, as well. Probably most anyone.

The trade value of just about everyone on our roster has declined

We don't have a lot of garbage as suggested by other posters. Yes, we are not a good team this year for many different reasons. Personnel wise, it's hard to explain why Brewer has pretty much regressed back to his rookie season or the general team wide slump in the early season. However, there's also a chance players that have been under performing progress back to their career averages offensively and defensively. I think Morey and other people in positions of evaluation understand this and understand sometimes players have a terrible or a bad season due to many different reasons other than injury. I doubt we'll be able to get back full worth, but Brewer is by no means untradeable for example.

I think we have a sizable treasure chest of assets and the dreaded notion of cap flexibility to take many different directions. I'm most curious to see what becomes of the Dwight/Harden mini era, as they've never seemed like a duo to me.

Daryl is rightfully keeping quiet, until the trade deadline goes by and the cavalry arrives.

Honestly what is he supposed to say? He knows it has been incredible disapointing and it doesn't look like it is getting any better. He has limited assets to trade, and knows he will not get a good return for them. What is there to talk about?

Radio host: "Wow Daryl another bad to mediocre past month, slowly drifting to that point where maybe you draw San Antonio and get the honor of being swept."

Morey: "Yes, well the living guy from KrissKross is doing the halftime show, so come out for some frustrating basketball devoid of any real effort or efficient play and enjoy Urban 90's retro night with the 40 year guy from KrissKross that didn't OD. Well worth dropping a couple hundred dollars and three hours of your time to see Rockets/Blazers."

I disagree about the "limited assets to trade". But then again, I don't entirely believe DMo's back is acting up, nor is he untouchable. Ariza would be valuable somewhere. Is Dwight gonna stay? Is there a team like Boston that would trade for him and re-sign him?

Lawson has a 12 million dollar expiring.

KJ seems worthless when he's getting no burn, sure, but he'll be a decent player someday if he isn't nailed to the bench.

Will we trade for an All Star? I doubt it. But we can upgrade.

People under pressure from the boss don't generally feel comfortable enough in their situation to tweet.

Okay let's break down the assets.

Motiejunas - back surgery last year, barely played this year... Missing time with back issues again... Going to be a free agent. How valuable is that?

Jones - inconsistent, often injured, poor defender or rebounder, soon to be a free agent looking for big money. How valuable is that?

Lawson: recovering alcohol AT BEST, shooting under 40%, whispers of issues in the locker room. Has played poorly, free agent. How valuable is that?

Terry -50 years old, cannot defend anymore and is limited to part time duty. Will be a free agent. How valuable?

Capella - young with long arms, limited offensively; can be a good reboumder or shot blocker... Just be aware he is a revolving door defensively inside. Teams will take the lane with easy. Offensive game not good enough to start... Defensively more of a 4 than 5. So really looks like a high energy reserve. How Valuable?

Ariza - Would be interest. Offensive has slipped and no longer a shut down defender but a solid rotation player for another year of two. What is that worth?
