It is a place where he knows if he pushes all the right buttons, he can compete at the highest level.... but it is also a place where he knows he has absolute and total control, which he would not get at UT or Ohio State. He really had a strong distaste for the power struggle at Ohio State. If you read what he said when he took the job and has said since then, and compare them with his actions... It is clear he isn't preparing to leave. From the HTownTakeover... To his contract structure, to his relationships with the Regents (and insisting on and getting anything he wants football wise/facility wise) to his hand picking his media mouth pieces.... Even his relationship with Sylvester Turner.... He has positioned himself to do what he wants/how he wants/when he wants. He has a level of influence and control at UH that very few coaches have, and is very hard to have at a top 10 established football school. If he did leave I am not convinced it would be because it was UT or Ohio State or USC calling, but because he was convinced attendance would never increase, he lost control over the program or something along those lines. His actions and the way he has approached this whole thing are vastly different than any coach in recent history. He has tied the city in, with the school administration, media coverage and social media like no one else.
a girl i used to date did this product promotion photoshoot in austin. she took me along. It so happens a certain nfl qb that had an everlasting great thread was there. We chatted and I asked him if UH had been this good during his recruitment year would he have stayed home? He gave me the nod. The qb wasn't schaubie by the way. cool story, bro. I know! and I got cookies to go too. so every time I hear someone say that UofH is going to get into the big 12, I'm skeptical. Those schools' officials would collude just to exclude UofH. Just like There are a lot people in the media that can't see other schools that aren't theirs do well. I love UofH doing things. Wish Rice could too. It'd be fun.
As much as I disagree with your opinion, yes you are correct, you are entitled to opinion. Sorry to come off so harsh.
AUDIO: http://houston.cbslocal.com/2015/12...en-in-houston-sunday-to-meet-with-tom-herman/ "To meet." LOLs! Sorry, John Lopez, your career as a radio person is over with 610, who want no part in damaging a current CHAMPION's name. I hear some of you talking about how these dudes Nick and John did to Ware and someone else, but... they weren't CURRENT CHAMPIONs of anything... Herman is. You don't do that. Lopez had a chance to at least say: "Fine, I used 'meet' instead of 'talk' or 'phoned' or 'contacted', I effed up, coach", but never did. Bub-bye, 610. I used to listen for fun now I won't. Of course, a bunch of other Cougar fans and bandwagoners won't anymore, either. Thanks.
Man this thread got so good the last two days. John Lopez is still a b****. Just for fun, if the coach decides he wants to leave and go to UH, one of the clauses I would make is that UT has to play in Houston at TDECU stadium three times in the next ten years. And if they want to break it, there is a hefty sum. (Or if you don't want to pay a hefty sum, make it a conference game, duh)
Read your post again, Kamster! Anyway, I think John Lopez and Nick Wright have FACES for radio but VOICES for newspaper. That's where they'll end up. No, tmacfor35. I have no ties to UH or 610, but because I used to only want to get my Texans news from them, I used to listen. Not anymore. You know I'm technical, bro. If he didn't meet, he didn't. As a journalist, he shouldn't have said that. Lopez got what he wanted... for the coach to look bad. He got it. EDIT: You don't try to disrespect ANY Current Champ like that.
I didn't see the "have lunch...absolutely not" as a huge point for Herman. The whole point Nick asked it was to prove that the coach was taking it personal. Of course Nick wasn't trying to have lunch with him. He set him up with that question. It's sad for Nick because he is actually intelligent and is very good when he strictly talks sports, especially the NFL and the NBA. But he seems more concerned with being a celebrity and getting twitter followers than he is about a go-to for sports information. I'm done listening to that show though. I'll probably check out the mid-day show and the Texans programming but no more morning show for me.
Herman made a ridiculous analogy, attacked nick personally, and got wayyyy to emotional. That was damn good radio. The UofH fans will back there guy but I have a feeling that Lopez's sources were solid.
Off-topic but rotoworld's mock draft has William Jackson being picked in the 1st round of the draft. That would be nice, especially if he becomes a successful NFLer.
Believe they were solid based off of what?? This is the same place that "broke" the story that Herman was going to UG - which turned out to be TOTALLY FALSE. The source? An obscure Twitter account - UGA Insider. Kyle Allen said he had been in Arizona the whole time since he left A&M and had only conducted phone interviews with possible schools. Another thing, Tom Herman is a pretty meticulous and smart guy (Mensa). Do you think he would really do something as brain-dead as meeting with a recruit in Houston during a time period that is illegal to do so per the NCAA; especially in this time when everyone has a camera on their phone? To jeopardize his program and his career? Be sensible.
This was the first time I've heard either of these guys in a long time. Wright standing up for Lopez like that was cringe worthy.
what sucks is i completely disagree with everything you say but every time i look at your username i go "damn this guy likes tmac, but his opinion on UH sucks." be glad you aren't tinman
Lopez is a dumbass and Nick is a b****, worst show in Houston. i can't believe nick tried to discredit the HEADLINE as some insignificant piece. what a moron. Herman is 100% right but it was 2 vs 1 and not in his element but in theirs. So it's understandable that he got too emotional which hurt his argument at some points. That said, if you use your brain and see what's complaining about, no sane person would agree with that hack Lopez. Someone has to hold the media accountable for their crappy reporting and jobs. It happens far to often and they usually get away with it. Journalistic integrity has gone down the ****ter over the last few years, especially with the access and pressures of social media. Now it seems owning a twitter makes you a source or a journalist, it's a joke. I know Lopez has credentials but you are either a reporter or an entertainer, can't be both. You want to act like a radio persona every morning and then once or twice a year put out a real news story, give me a break. maybe he was a credible journalist for over 30 years but he hasn't been doing that now for years, he's a radio/tv personality now. one requires facts, the other opinion based storytelling. it's no wonder "facts" are important to him anymore.
What does this mean? Is this a rough draft of a bad haiku? At least the last line has the right number of syllables.
Why would you have lunch with someone you don't like or have anything to gain from professionally? The guy agreed to come onto the show to air out the differences and I think that's good enough. For this to be only the second time that the coach has been invited onto the show is telling of how much support he was getting from the show in the first place. UH already has a competing radio station backing them so no loss here.
