Again, this isn't true. I looked at the court documents for the Avery case and the file notes the leg irons and handcuffs were introduced into evidence (pictures of them were marked exhibits) and shown to the jury.

    https://wcca.wicourts.gov/courtReco...et=12&linkOnlyToForm=false&sortDirection=DESC

We don't have the court reporter's log to see exactly what was said about the irons and the handcuffs, but it was absolutely presented. Megyn Kelly half challenged the defense attorney last night about it and then let it go but reiterated that she had seen the pictures that were used in evidence.

They didn't use Dassey's testimony against Avery so I would love to see how this evidence was presented. My guess is that they submitted all evidence they had at the beginning and then argued the pieces that helped their prosecution. I wouldn't be surprised if the irons and cuffs were never discussed as being used in the murder. Maybe they submitted it as some sort of character flaw evidence?

One of the most shocking things to me was how did Colburn know it was a 99 Toyota?

The most infuriating thing about this case is that IF Steven Avery really did do this, and he surely is a key suspect, the Sheriff's departments involvement in the case almost allowed him to walk free.

Let's say a number of things weren't planted and were left in their assumed locations-

-Theresa's car is found in a barn or somewhere off property(rumor I've heard where Lenk called in the plates most likely)
-There is evidence the body was in the car as there was evidence of her blood and hair in the back
-Steven's DNA was found (if you believe this one) under the hood of the car
-Steven was the last person recorded as seeing her

IMO if you link Steven to a crime where the evidence is found dumped somewhere off property in this case it makes the argument against Steven that much more compelling.... again... IF you really do have that DNA evidence of Steven's under the hood of the car.

The evidence that shows that Lenk called in the plates somewhere several days before the car was found just puts doubt in the minds of the jury. Then you show the evidence that in fact the bones were moved TO THE BACKYARD of Avery's own house, and you get more and more doubt.

Then you get into Brendan's confession which is a big cluster F on its own. How that confession is not dismissed is beyond me. Its pretty clear to be a textbook "Coerced Confession" and the duration of the interrogations alone should have been enough to throw these out as admissible. Which is a shame because Brendan is obviously a key witness in the case, and their mishandling of the interrogations probably led the jury to throw his confessions into question even if the judge and the prosecution did not.

What is there to learn from this documentary/TV Series??

Well for one... Don't ever talk to the cops about a crime that could any way be tied back to you without a lawyer present. Other than that I dont know. I feel like Steven could very well have done it and the cops could have had the best intentions in keeping the world a safer place. But the tampering of evidence, and not being truthful about the evidence you are finding as a cop completely destroys your credibility. Hopefully our men & women in blue do a better job moving forward.

If I was a juror, that would secure my not guilty vote.

Why wouldn't he, they were looking for a blue '99 Toyota Rav 4. If he didnt know what her car was already, how would he know its '99 vs any other year of that model generation.

Maybe he was calling in to just verify license plate number matches the description of the vehicle he is looking for.

She was reported missing on November 3rd. From what I understand Colburn made that call on November 2nd.

The series itself leaves a lot of doubt... but when you add in the things the series conveniently left out (he was the one making multiple harassing phone calls to Teresa ahead of her visit, the shackles he purchased, the other DNA, etc.)... its easier to see that him killing her makes sense.

Still doesn't mean the prosecution proved their case nor should they have found him guilty... the prosecution f'd it up (along with his defense doing a spectacular job at creating elements of doubt).

Much like in sports... sometimes the expected or on-paper result doesn't happen (but unlike sports, the on-paper result should be the "truth" that gets hashed out through the proper procedures/channels).

He called them in Nov 3 evening after she was reported missing. He could have very well have been verifying the information the family gave of the missing car. He could have also been looking at the car, but neither instance can be claimed to have 100% happened.

wait, what? are you referring to the two *69 calls the day she came to the property or the harassing phone calls she was receiving in the weeks prior (the ones that her coworker said were visibly stressing her out). i was under the impression that those were never confirmed to be avery (plus, why would she come there if he was the one making all those calls?) she obviously felt comfortable enough around him to shoot pictures there again...

i still think whoever left those VMs is the one who did it. but her bro checked and deleted them already.

Found this to be a great post on the subject. If we aren't certain whether he did it or not, that's reasonable doubt:

This is quite a leap from the recent information of his 3 phone calls made to her, 2 of which were anonymous.

-The harassing phone calls referenced in the doc occurred much more frequently and at a different time according to her co-worker.
-The calls were made from his landline, I believe, which means anyone on the compound could have made them.
-If she was being "harassed" by Avery, why would she willingly have shown up to take the pictures? Dean Strang recently stated that Halbach was the one who told her boss where she would be going that day, so it's not as if she was lured there under false pretenses.

The filmmakers have stated that they included what they felt was pertinent both for the defense and prosecution, so maybe all of these pieces of evidence that were left out really didn't consume much discussion during the trial? If/when someone finds the transcripts of the entire trial, we will know how much these items were discussed.

You are correct, they were not the same set of calls.

    Per TMZ

Steven Avery claims his own two brothers may have killed Teresa Halbach -- especially one who he says had a history of harassing women at the exact location where Teresa was last seen.

Avery filed legal docs -- obtained by TMZ -- in which he claims brothers Earl and Charles may have done the deed for which he's serving a life sentence. He says both have a history of sexually assaulting women. Earl once pled no contest to sexually assaulting his 2 daughters.

According to the docs, which Steven filed in 2009 after his conviction, brother Charles' criminal conduct and actions are even more problematic. He was charged with sexually assaulting his wife by holding her down and trying to strangle her with a phone cord before having intercourse with her.

The docs say Charles also had a history of aggression toward women who visited the family's junkyard. One woman, who was there to retrieve her car that had been towed, complained to cops she was afraid of Charles because he was aggressively pursuing her ... sending flowers and money to her home, calling her incessantly and showing up at her doorstep.

According to docs there was another incident in which a woman who bought a car part from the junkyard was harassed by Charles, who asked her on dates and showed up at her house.

Another woman claimed Charles had repeatedly driven by her house and would tell her on the phone he had seen her in her bathing suit as he drove by.

And this is interesting ... according to the docs, all of these women were allegedly harassed by Charles within a month of the time Teresa Halbach went missing.

Steven also says his 2 brothers had a motive to frame him because they were fighting over the family business and were jealous he was on the verge of a multi-million dollar settlement for being wrongfully convicted of sexual assault.

one thing i didn't understand from the documentary - did the cops not take pictures/video of EVERYTHING the first few days Avery was forced off his property so it could be searched? seems like that would be huge and would prove that they key was (eventually) planted.

i've seen the picture of the blue keychain...it's right there, uncovered and not obscured in any way. just baffled at how this could be skipped over in such plain view.
