That signifies that you keep your company among sane people. Perhaps this is a good thing, as the crazies who openly carry will be exposed so regular people no longer have to associate themselves with them. Texas needs to designate a "gun zone" in each city where all of the nuts can just hang out with each other, brandishing weapons, and getting into duels, wild west style. Let the rest of society function.
I suspect this is the viewpoint of the vast majority of those who have a chl and who might choose to "open carry". It's not "crazies" who have these guns. The crazies are the drug dealers and gang bangers who get access to illegal guns. There are over 300 million guns in the US. The true crazies will always be able to access guns.
From what I understand, the nuts can now walk around as if it's 1845 brandishing guns on their hips at the local Dairy Queen. The police won't be able to know if they are regular fools with a hard-on for packing heat or actual criminals intending to commit a crime. However, if said dimwit were to actually place a hand on their guns, then the police can legally detain or arrest them. The police won't shoot them unless they happen to be 12 year black males playing with toy guns in public. Twelve year old white males get a free pass especially if they suffer from affluenza.
This is why every gun owners should really have a class on gun ownership and responsibility that goes with it. I always advocate to all my friends who decided to get gun to take a CHL class, even if they never decided to carry outside of their home.
That's very responsible and reasonable. The CHL folks that I know for the most part have the exact same attitude. I'm not sure about what percentages of open carry folks do as well.
Just a point of clarification. Brandishing a weapon--waving or pointing it usually out of anger and excitement. Having a holstered gun on your hip is not brandishing.
What's sad is that I'm not 100% sure that this is sarcasm or not, that's how bad things get in here these days.
I predict a lot of armed robberies of folks open carrying expensive toys. It's easy money and harder to trace than an iPhone. Roll up behind a dude carrying a sweet Springfield 1911 and you instant cash. It's cool and all but no way am I advertising what I carry or how much I paid for it. Guns cost serious money. Most car break-ins are just to look for guns.
Here is a list of establishments and where they stand on the open carry law: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1h9sHI_HXr9AAKTkYXTi7BOLSeEKE4qieyaDyY3Jx5dw/edit?usp=sharing
So there's a few cool places around town. Good to know. I still doubt that many people will actually choose to openly carry.
I don't have a problem with the 30.07. These businesses have a right to file the proper paperwork and post the signs legally. Now, if they have a 30.06, bye bye business.
Stupid way to carry. She's (I'm assuming its a she, but it is wal mart...) going to shoot her ass off. I need to read up on the law, but iirc, the gun must be properly holstered. *edit* I was right. http://www.opencarrytexas.org/faq.html I don't think Mexican Carry is properly holstered. ***2nd edit*** Upon further inspection, she is properly holstered. She's using an ITB holster. I just noticed the belt clips. I have a CTAC but carry just behind my hip.
