Just got out of this and was surprisingly was very disappointed. Not a bad movie by any means, but Emily Blunt's character was largely pointless and poorly written, despite being the main character, and as some have said, the 3rd act wasn't great.

    5/10 for me.

Just got around to watching it. I actually found the third act to be the most compelling and entertaining. I felt the first 2 acts didn't belong. They felt like true detective season2, a lot of dramatic music followed by insignificant events. Not a bad movie but 90% on Rotten tomatoes? not sure about that score. 6/10.

I thought it was okay. Nothing special. More thriller than action until the third act, like Zero Dark Thirty. I felt the writing was a bit lazy.

For the first 2/3 of the movie, Blunt and the viewer are kept in the dark about the purpose of the mission. The dialogue and writing pretty much went like this:
    Blunt: What are we doing?
    Brolin: You'll see.
    Blunt: Tell me omgggg
Brolin: You wanna be part of this task force? If so, then shutup and follow orders.
    *Cue awkward silence and stares.*

While I can see that as thrilling to some, making the viewer fill in the gaps with our imagination felt cheap. Then the explanation after Blunt sucker punches Brolin as "We put the drug lords in place and when one gets out of control, we take him out and put another in his place." was a bit too illuminati.

I can see how others would like it, but it didn't do it for me. I don't get all the critical acclaim, but I'm not one that understands art, either.

Very enjoyable movie. Don't get any criticisms about the third act. I liked all the acts.

I am on board with Blunts character being extremely underdeveloped.

But solid movie. 3.5/5 stars = 70%. Enjoyed it but won't be watching g again unless by pure accident.

finally saw this a couple nights ago. I actually liked it quite a bit and what it was conveying/setting up.
They needed her and specifically picked someone they knew would be so by the book that she'd question everything and be somewhat of an annoying thorn in the side. They needed a rubber stamp of approval from someone this clean cut to justify the covert and highly illegal operation they were running.

Del Toro's character kicked ass. Maybe the only time I've seen children die and it was pleased with the action. You take out my peeps that way and none of yours would be safe either. They didn't PG that part up.

Overall I thought it was an interesting supposition on the state of Mexican Cartels and the lack of control we have over them.

That said - it did not live up to the pre-movie hype and was definitely a slow burn. But it left me thinking

Very very interesting observation. I do agree that Tarantino's script is very relevant with today's issue. Although I don't see it as your angle but what I got from it is in tune with what the cops are doing right now that's an epidemic. The racial part I felt very much relevant in today's society.

hard to identify with Blunts character when she immediately whines about shooting the armed cartel gang members with machine guns intent on killing them at the border.

wtf did she want the soldiers to do?

furthermore her constant complaining and having a huge moral dilemma about the operation specifics were likewise hard to completely sympathize with. Yes. they are running a semi legal illegal cia ops mission against a known civilian murdering cop killing carter... I can understand if she was a little conflicted but damn boo ****en hoo with her acting like a put upon martyr or victim.

Really liked the movie... was puzzled about the name Sicario (Headhunter-Killer)

Benicio was badarse and if you know the brutality of the real Mexican cartels then it is realistic enough

the writers might not have intended it, but Brolin's character was the hero of the film

The soundtrack was ****ing amazing. Especially when they arrive in Juarez, makes the movie almost eerie.

I think he raped him. I was reading on reddit that in Mexican culture, a person is considered gay and weak that he got raped and not gay to be the raper. Doesnt make a whole lot of sense to me but it must be that muchismo thing. Hence, Benicio putting his dick pretty much on the guys cheek when he walked in, considered rude in any culture but extremely rude in Mexican culture, emasculating that guys whole head boss persona.
