I wasn't saying I'd do that trade, but from Brooklyn's stand point it makes sense. That's what I was getting at. I want Pau Gasol. Yeah he's getting older, but he can hit the mid range and can box out better than D-Mo or T-Jones
3 "reloading" trades Dwight + DMo + Thornton for Love + Smith + Cunningham Ariza for Gibson + McDermott Lawson + TJones for Jrue Holiday Holiday / Beverley Harden / McDaniels Brewer / McDermott / Dekker Love / Harrell Capela / Gibson If we "reload" by trading out several of our "win now" players, the primary goals would be to get a new running mate for Harden (Love), have plus defenders at all levels (Holiday, Gibson), and add more shooting (Love, Holiday, McDermott). Obviously this leaves a bit of a hole at SF. Option 1 would be Durant, but you would also have cap room to go after guys like Deng, Bazemore, Batum, etc.
One point I want to emphasize, a package of Capela, Ariza, plus our 2016 lottery pick or our 2018 pick unprotected is a lot of trade value. Throw in McDaniels and/or Dekker and that is a package that should be able to net us a very good young two-way star player. I think Ainge might bite on something like that for Marcus Smart for instance. And it might be attractive enough that Orlando would consider trading Oladipo. We can put together a good collection of assets for a young two-way star.
Capela, Ariza, KJ, a first rounder and maybe Dekker for Smart or Oladipo? Um, no. Smart and Oladipo are very good but Morey won't pay that price.
OLadipo still needs to work on his game, namely his shot, but that's exactly the type of tenacity this team needs. Vic brings it every night. Not too sure Orlando would be willing to part with him, but I would at least kick the tires on him.
Nice, but the other teams have to say yes, too. NOH love Holiday and the Cavs are all in sync. If the other teams were to say yes. The Rockets would look a lot better going forward. Maybe Dekker or KMcD turn into something and fill the hole at the 3. Brewer has to go
That's a very high price to pay for a disappointing Smart and a bench Oladipo. I think Capela alone is an equal or better prospect.
how about portis? the bulls are looking for help on the wing. ariza would be a great fit. maybe something like: ariza/thornton/pick(s) if needed for portis/dunleavy/snell this gives them an immediate upgrade at a position they need. we get to look forward to a capela/portis frontcourt.
The Cavs are the only team I could see saying no. Chicago has a big hole at SF and Ariza is plug and play ready. Gibson isn't a big loss given their front court depth and McDermott is the cost of doing business. Last time I looked NOP was 11 games under .500. Holiday is a nice player, but he's clearly not pushing them over the top. The trade I suggested allowed each to try something else, and NOP gets a little something else. You are probably right about the Cavs. To be honest, I don't think they are good enough to beat the Warriors or Spurs as constructed. Dwight gives them better rim protection, and Thornton replaces Smith's production for cheaper. DMo gives them a post game, big shooting and ball movement.....essentially Love's role but in a more situational capacity.
Wow. If we could get Smart or Oladipo for just Capela and filler I'd think we'd made out like bandits. Wow. I'm surprised at the variance in opinion here.
Just because new orleans are not in the playoffs right now doesnt mean That will start trading away their good players (one who cost them two high first!) for that package.
Clint Capela should not be considered untouchable. He's a younger Dwight. Very athletic but zero jumpshot to speak of and he's terrible at the foul line. This means he (like Dwight) has very little chemistry with James Harden and he's prone to getting hacked. You can combine Dwight, Capela, Jones, and picks and basically get who you want like Cousins or Melo.
They aren't just "not in the playoffs"....if the draft were tomorrow, they'd be picking 4th. But anyways, it's not unreasonable to suggest Lawson + TJones is a fair trade for Holiday. Holiday only has one more year left on his contract, and Ty has been playing much better recently.
Yeah actually its very bad for new orleans. The spent two first for jrue who is finally healthy and is getting his minutes restrictions lifted and theres a reason that the season is not yet over. New orleans has still hope to make the playoffs they are not out of it yet. ( they havent lost many more games than the rockets and playing much better lately than they did to start the season). And jrue will be traded by getting back equal value. Not lawson whos value is a zero. If they want jones they will have good clean books and can easilly go after him next summer or trade a lesser asset to get him.
