Also with Mack doing almost nothing today despite facing only single coverage by a right tackle, JJ Watt will end up with the league lead in sacks and probably the DPOY yet again.
Nobody is debating that.... but Merciless has played better, has been healthier... and the defense looks even more lethal when Merciless plays at his natural position. Again, Clowney is not double-teamed all the time... nor his he doubled "A LOT" despite what some may say. At this point, he needs to get and stay healthy... that's been his biggest issue as a pro thus far.
Expect Merciless to stay exactly where he is, probably get increased reps.... Clowney to come in on a rotating basis (if he can walk), much like he was to start the season. As it is, they're going to be facing either a QB who gets it out quickly and recognizes where the pressure is coming from (Manning) or one that has decent mobility (Smith) which is going to require creative/deceptive blitz packages. With the cast off, teams will go back to double/triple teaming Watt and attempting to handle Clowney/Merciless with one-on-one coverage and RB help (which is the crux of the mythical double team some will have you believe).
It'll be really important to have Clowney back next week because when facing a QB like Alex Smith who is a runner, you have to have guys that can set the edge and Clowney is the best at that on the team. I expect to see a lot of sets where Watt and Clowney are both double teamed, pretty much like has happened all season, and it'll be interesting to see if Mercilus can do anything with his single coverage.
Talking last year? HOU didn't play OAK this season. Again, be fair. You're talking to (one of) the biggest, yet unbiased, fan ever.
Sorry but I have to put a few asterisks here 1. You aren't a fan. 2. You aren't unbiased. 3. You aren't fair.
I'll respect your opinion if you can make a better argument. But you can't. ... thus, no respect on this issue.
We all know that was last year. I didn't think I needed to state it. That's why I said I still think they are better and they will at each other next year. That matchup will be a better comparison. But so far, the edge goes to the Texans.
Couldn't resist.... Hey, Hillbroad... where's your vemon towards this poster? You said you anyone who finds humor in physical injury is a COMPLETE dumbass, right? Where's your venom for this poster? I saw your ass post in this forum since this gif was posted. Go ahead and say you never saw it, if you're even man enough to respond in the first place. Thanks for the laughs, boy.
Why would Merciless and Clowney be on the field at the same time? They both play the same position (edge rusher LB.) How often have they been on the field at the same time? I agree it would be great to have him back but only in schemes were he is rushing and not put into a position where he has to drop into coverage.
Anyone else lol that Mercilus had his 9 sack against Ten & Jac... in 3 games 10 sacks if you include 1 against Indy at their worse. Another 1 sack against NE... don't know how much NE was up at that point tho. Only sack in an impressive win was against Cincy. So, thats 9 sack in 3 games against top 5 worse team... 10 sack in 4 games against division opponent With that said, notching 3+ sacks in a single game is still impressive
you can do that with every sack leader. take away mack's 5 game sack and he has 10 for the year. then, he got 4 against the browns and titans, so in reality he only had 6 sacks!!! seriously who does that?
Not really if you look when he got them. They came largely against the weaker teams and he was somewhat invisible during the games against the better teams. 9 of his 12 sacks came against Tennessee and Jacksonville. That is to say that his play was inconsistent, hopefully he has a good game this weekend.
