Agreed. All of those plays where Clowney and Watt both faced double teams this season, if Mercilus can take advantage of that and get sacks like he did today, they'll be damn near unstoppable.

So the other team only chooses to double Clowney and neutralize him, but doesn't want to double Mercilus when he is making an impact. Got it. Or maybe Mercilus is just better than Clowney?

They really should just trade clowney. He's making too much money and has very little production.

I think he will still be a good player but he's just too injury prone.

So what have the Chiefs been doing good lately?

Broncos don't look so good against the Chargers.

Most fans want Broncos or Chiefs?

2 different type of players. Clowney is very technique oriented and his technique isn't as refined due to Youthfulness. The merciless is just a killing machine with one objective: no mecy.

Watch the games and you'd have the answer. Khalil Mack has even more sacks than Mercilus and teams still don't double him. Teams are afraid to not double guys like Watt and Clowney and they are willing to take the chance against guys like Mack and Mercilus....hell the Jags didn't double Watt very much today and look what happened to them. That would happen literally every game if the rest of the league was dumb enough to use single coverage on him.

We had several games this year when teams doubled both Clowney AND Watt on plays while Mercilus was on the field, he's just not seen as being as big a threat. Maybe in the future they'll double Mercilus and use single coverage on Clowney, I certainly hope so because that would be awesome.

I don't hate Clowney, I hate the fact we've had 3 #1 picks in franchise history and never had an obvious QB choice.

0-3..... What are the freakin chances that happens?

The only time they missed on a first overall pick was when they took the QB, I'm glad they learned their lesson and made the right pick the next 2 times.

I preferred Mack in that draft and still do, but Clowney did have some good plays from just a raw power and speed perspective. His game still needs a bunch of work to be great though.

Carr wasn't an obvious pick... the draft was weak overall and the QB prospects were even weaker. McNair's thought process was, "we NEED a face to the franchise".

He was the best QB in the class....there were a lot of people who wanted to draft a QB saying some of the same things that were said in 2002, I'm glad the Texans learned their lesson.

The Raiders have Carr, Mack, Cooper, and a running game yet have a losing record. Go Texans!

He was the best QB prospect in perhaps the worst QB class in league history.... definitely not an obvious #1 pick.

Be fair. OAK also plays in this year's toughest division by record.

Clowney is not being doubled every single snap... he's been solid, and shown glimpses/flashes, but as of right now, Merciless has been more effective when he gets more reps as the DE/OLB opposite Watt.

Ideally, they figure out a way to work all three of them into the mix... but if you had to choose one, Merciless is the guy (and that's presuming Clowney is even healthy... which is a huge ?).

Clowney isn't doubled every single snap, but he's doubled a LOT. Mercilus is never doubled, defenses just don't fear him. Anyway, I get that it's easier to read a stat sheet and relay what happens on the field that way than it is to understand WHY those things happen. It's why Mack is getting talked up so much right now.

Take away the injuries, and Clooney was borderline pro bowl level this year when he played.
If you want to get rid of him because he is injury prone, that is one thing.
But, he played very well when he played.

The only head to head they played, the Texans won. I still think the Texans are a better team. They will play again next year.
