Even though UT was ranked 20 at the time and UH 19 and Texas finished .500 for the year, the 30-0 thrashing in Austin in their first SWC season was pretty big.
It's no surprise kids want to play for him. Not only is the product on the field there, but he's in tune with what is popular. I mean, to quote one of Drake's hottest songs of the year In an interview after the program's biggest year in decades is really damn cool. He just gets it. I hope he stays for years. He can take UH beyond what we ever imagined.
Well, I'm thinking more along the lines of the letdown start of the Texans and Rockets. The Coogs gave the city something else to follow while those two teams flouder(ed). Not to mention, in the end, the Coogs have something to show for their efforts.
A lot of things could happen in one year, but if Strong doesn't have a very good season (9-10 wins) and Herman has a similar season as this year, you know Texas will come knocking. It would make too much sense. If it does happen, I can can Major staying at UH because of the whole affair thing with the student.
Coogs beat unbeaten and # 4 ranked Maryland in Cotton Bowl after 76 season. In 1979 they beat #7 Nebraska and finished #5 in the rankings which is still our highest finish ever. We have been here before its just been a really long time. I saw this earlier this week that UH is the only G5 school that played in a major bowl before the BCS era and in the College Playoff era.
I was at that game as well. If I'm not mistaken UT had won 44 games in a row at home before we destroyed them.
Not necessarily. There is Chip Kelly and others. Privately Herman said to administrators he would only consider leaving for a top 5 job (which would probably include UT) but that even then he is quite familiar with the pitfalls of those type of jobs as well. If UH gets a major conference invite I am not overly worried of him leaving. UH would be in a financial position to pay him very well. Also I don't think people realize the amount of power/control he has at UH. He wouldn't have that at a program like UT.
