They've had a bunch of skyscraper fires. See post #7.

I hope you're kidding with that BS. I noticed that this building wasn't doused in jet fuel that burns at an incredibly high temp.

If you're not kidding, it's good public service. It's important for the rest of us to understand exactly how our society will fall back to the pre-Enlightenment times of disease, myth, and feudal structure.

That is a horrifying image to see.

I wonder if the building's fire control extinguished it or if firemen rushed in to fight that.

One of my buddies is an engineer for a large construction firm that has done business there. He said, paraphrasing, that most of those building look amazing but are not built to last. Very questionable building standards, and he said that is pretty much the norm in the new-rich oil states.

    Heard the same thing.

My understanding is the many princes are in a competition to see who can build the most spectacular skyscrapers, and they don't care about meeting sound engineering standards -- like it's a status symbol. They probably each have a posse who gives them advice that lines the posse's own pockets by selecting building and construction firm that give them kickbacks. And that kickback money is probably the difference between shoddy and quality work.

Another example is many of the buildings have no parking garages.

That said: Sounds like the have quality elevators. Great everyone got out.

This apparently just happened in China because of some workers setting off fireworks inside to celebrate completion of the building.

That's impressive the whole building is engulfed - even the parking garage structure. They must have built it out of wood soaked in gasoline which is a major problem.

Can someone explain how the whole building can be on fire at once? Don't see how this would happen naturally in such a short amount of time.

Also hard to explain how this could be an act of terror.

Looks like it started in the garage, or maybe main floors below it.

    NYE terrorist attack?

My understanding is Dubai skyscrapers wore built quickly with very poor adherence to codes. It became a race to between the princes to claim who had the biggest dick, and their entourages and GCs would line their pockets with profits by hiring shoddy construction and materials companies.

That's a story told from one of the founders of my company who still travels there regularly to provide materials and energy mgmt consulting to these construction companies.
