Byron Scott was always a Laker homer even when he was hired to coach the Nets. Once the Nets lost Game 1 in that Finals series, Byron basically said "they are the Lakers, they are champions" and essentially threw in the towel trying to beat them. He was horrible.
Would Lin have become an above average defender under this coaching staff? I'm on Reddit and Hornets fans are actually praising his defense and think he's their 3rd best. I had to do a double check. Makes me believe there may still be some hope left for Harden and co.
