Klay Thompson: I'm the best shooting guard in the NBA

But you said people are using the eye test instead of metrics to argue against Klay.....but DBPM is the only one I've seen that somewhat supports what you see (i.e. parsons getting worse every year). Mostly just from watching and reading the few people who's opinion I respect (haralabos, etc.)

 

Individual defensive stats (publicly avaiable) have too much noise to be accurate measurements of a player's defensive impact.

Playing defense in basketball is like playing offensive line in football. It is very dependent on the guys playing next to you and the opposing players playing against you.

 

Defensive statistics certainly have their limitations, but as long as you recognize them, they still have value.

For instance, if I am thinking about it objectively, I would think that the Rockets best three defensive impact guys, on the Rockets, are Howard, Capella and Ariza. Not surprisingly, they are the three that show up the most favorably statistically.

You look to the Warriors team, using the same methodology, the big defensive names stand out, and then there is Klay near the bottom. So tell me, what explanation is there for this? What "noise" is there that is none of Ariza, Capella, Howard, Green, Iggy, Bogut are getting, but only Klay is?

 

Agreed. But if he sucks defensively both by the eye test and by the available numbers, how likely is it that every way of evaluating him is wrong?

 

Thompson wouldn't be as good without his side kick Curry in my opinion

He is dumb as ****. I will say, both Klay and Butler are really good defenders. I don't think he realizes that his shooting % is so good because Curry demands so much attention on offense.

 

Harden is not #1 on championship team

Closest Harden came to Championship was the #3 guy on the Thunder.. he absolutely cannot win a ring as the number 1 guy.. his defense is too atrocious and he shoots a terrible percentage as a #1 guy..

People are wanting to judge eye test on Klays offense after they realized the advanced metrics didn't support them

Sad to see some other young players improved leap and bound while Harden seemed to have peaked already.
