I voted Star Wars but to be fair my only exposure to Star Trek was the last two movies.

Listening to Star Wars Crucible on audio book.
I am tired of the Skywalkers and the Solos.
    I see why I am more of a Trek Person . . . . .
1st the Star Wars universe is too incestral
    and
The magical Jedi are too too powerful that THE FORCE becomes a Deux Machina for everything

Was Trek the first show/movie to have the concept of traveling back in time to kill someone ( like Terminator's mother )? I know lost in space might have been earlier as that is black and white, but not sure what they dealt with. And everything builds from the work of HG Wells ( 1895 ) who must have been a damn genius to write about it first. Then there was the Flash and Superman comics. But wondering if Trek was the first to deal with life and death and changing history in TV?

I prefer Star Trek mainly because of the tv shows tng, ds9, and voy.

But now with Rogue One, Star Wars has the better movies.

Ha. Missed this thread when it was first posted I guess. Just read through the whole thing. I agree with the general sentiment that for the most part, the two are nothing alike. Star Wars I view as action movies with sci-fi elements, Star Trek is sci-fi. Star Wars appeals to basically everyone, while Star Trek can feel plodding and methodical.

That said, Star Trek for me. Certainly comparing only the movies, Star Wars wins, no contest. But when you compare the best Star Trek content, which is the various TV series, against the Star Wars movies... well. I just feel like there's a lot more interesting and varied things going on plot-wise in Star Trek than Star Wars. Love DS9, also TNG is great, and Voyager is not bad as well. Tried hard to get into the original series, but couldn't stay with it after 12 or so episodes.

Of course that effect seems to be there to an extent on practically every Trek series. TNG's 1st season is famously bad, and DS9 doesn't truly pick up until early season 3, IMO. My lady is on her first run through it and seemed to be in danger of quitting on it (noooooo!), but made it several episodes into season 3 and was like "hey, the Cardassians, Klingons, and the Dominion are all interesting, way better than all the boring Quark episodes and Bajoran politics crap." Yes. Yes indeed. Not least of which because GARAK. :D

The irony is that the new Star Trek movies are a lot closer to being Star Wars than Star Trek, IMO. They are action movies. They don't "feel" like Star Trek at all, though I enjoy them for what they are.

Well, do yourself a favor and check out DS9 & TNG. The content you say you didn't like (original series & some of the movies), I didn't much like either. Might change your opinion! You're letting the best in Star Trek pass you by!

"Alexa, play songs by William Shatner"

That was a tough listening session.

I tried continue watching Enterprise on Netflix recently, and yep, it's still terrible.

    Just started the 4th season.

Star Wars is about ideology, Star Trek is about questioning ideology. Opposites. It just so happens the creators of these two things chose galactic worlds to create an ultimatum > i.e. what is finite when we have astonishingly greater knowledge about the material world?

    Both great imo.

Yeah, I generally cite that as my favorite Star Trek episode from any series. Though honestly, The Visitor is probably on equal footing... they're just very different types of stories.
