He actually says "Face me!" And then says "Curses!" because he gets hit by that barrel or whatever it is. It just sounds similar and is pretty amazing timing.

I'd give it a 7/10. It was good, but it was basically a modernized Episode 4 with new main characters to pander to different demographics. The new characters are alright, but I don't get the insane love for Rey or Ren.
Should have just called it the Star Wars Reunion Tour guest starring the runaway indentured servant, the wannabe leia, and Marilyn Groban and the fascist bunch. Part 2 Finn will show Rey the true meaning of the dark side.
This should put it to rest. <iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/Dnna5vUoxBY" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
But wasn't Ren supposed to have been trained by Luke? Also, wasn't it Ren who caused Lukes's self-exile because he essentially pulled an "Anakin" and killed all of Luke's students? Going forth it would appear that Ren's training had continued under Snoke so under utilization of his powers didn't appear to be an issue. What I found so off putting was how his character was presented. He comes across as some sort of bipolar, petulant child who was playing Darth Vader dress up. That's why I termed him the "Diet Coke of the Darkside". Some here have asserted that his character isn't fully developed yet - that we are witnessing the evolution of a new villain. Well, I certainly hope they are correct because right now I find him as menacing right now as this guy: Spoiler http://static.comicvine.com/uploads/original/11114/111144096/4110838-1346925215-Space.jpg
It's pretty clear they're establishing a very raw villain which is a great take IMO. Power struggle with General Hux, talented in some aspects of the Force, weak in others, struggling with dark vs light side of Force, etc... I dig it, and they chose the right actor to pull it off.
Yup. Makes for a great character arc. I've seen it 3 times, and each time I find myself enjoying Kylo Ren more. I expect in Episode 8 he'll be a much more formidable and intimidating villain.
I do so hope you are right. JJ chose to present him as an angry version of the young Anakin who lacks self-control (because Obi-Wan Kenobi isn't around to calm him) and who talks to and cuts himself. That's why he appears to me to be more bipolar than menacing even though he possesses great power with the Force. Perhaps a better take would have been using some sort of demonic possession where a totally unknown aspect of the Dark Side allowed the dispossessed spirit of Darth Vader to continue to exist in the Force. After all, the spirits of Yoda, Anakin & Obi-Wan still exist in the Force and if they can do so, then surely those who embrace the Dark Side (Palpatine, Maul, Dorku) could do so as well. Unknown to all, the consciousness of Anakin/Vader, still exists and is slowly infiltrating Ren's mind due to his blood lineage to Anakin. Instead of him talking to himself, it is Vader's words we hear talking to him urging him to give in to his rage and hatred. Then he'd literally be listening to the voices in his head. I guess that would make him more schizophrenic than bipolar and far more menacing.
Anakin redeemed himself though. He ceased being pure dark side. He wasn't even evil per se, just incredibly passionate and valued his family above all else. And then Padme died, so he turned into a jaded tyrant for a while.
Quite true, in fact it was his love of Padme that was exploited by the Emperor to turn Anakin to the Dark Side (that plus his raging immaturity). But, just for the sake of what if, what if Anakin was different from the other Jedi in that he is/was both the Light and the Dark (after all he was supposed to bring balance to the Force). It could be that energy of his Dark Side never really ceased to exist but rather split from him and merged with the Force in the same way that Yoda & Obi-Wan did. Said energy remained undetected for decades until Ren's unstable mental state somehow managed to tap into it (being his grandson) causing his turn towards evil. It's just a what if but one I'd find a lot more believable that what JJ presented in TFA.
i think that is how they want him portrayed. his is not fully developed yet. he is obsessed with vader and continuing his legacy. doesnt he say to the helmet "i will finish what you started grandfather". but in a lot of ways he is just "playing" vader. childishly imitating him. kind of like how when kobe came into the league, as naturally talented as he was, he was copying jordan, his idol...even doing the tongue stick-out thing. saw the movie two days ago and was finally able to read the thread! i thought it was great and enjoyed reading all the insight here. cant wait to see it again. im old enough to remember my parents NOT taking me to star wars, but i saw empire and return of the jedi in theaters. unlike the prequels, this one captured that same feeling of excitement i had in the early 80's and really took me to a galaxy far, far away. no offense if this was one of yall, but the amount of grown men wearing star wars shirts was off the charts. thats like wearing the shirt of the band you are seeing in concert, which everyone knows is totally lame. my two cents... some mentioned R2-D2 coming back on at the end. it was only when rey got to the base...was R2-D2 programmed to only come back on for a skywalker? i get the complaints about how they basically made a rehash of IV. i can actually see elements of IV, V and VI, but i thought it was really well done. maybe im reaching here, but i think they are pushing the theme of history repeating itself. life is cyclical, daniel-son. i do think rey is lukes daughter, but i dont think she is going to be the main character going forward. i think the star wars story is and always has been lukes and he will play a much bigger role in the next two. he has been in hiding for 10 years, presumably honing his skills like yoda and obi wan when they were in exile. the idea of rey going dark and ren going back to the jedi is intriguing. it could be her vs. her father luke and ren saving the day for the jedi. it definitely plays into the whole notion of redemption that vader almost had at the end of return of the jedi. edit: the harrison ford/carrie fisher scenes were just bad. worse chemistry than natalie portman and hayden christianson.
I finally saw the film Saturday, I went in with my hopes not set too high but was pleasantly surprised and am looking forward to seeing how the story pans out over the next films. As someone who saw the original three in the theaters as a kid this film didn't leave me with that epic feeling but I've got a lot more hope for the upcoming films than I did after watching Episode 1.
Old news but new news to me- Kylo Ren's cross-guard explained: Spoiler if you haven't seen the movie yet. Spoiler For those who didn’t know, the word quillons is nothing new. That’s just another word for the crossguard on a sword. But what is new is learning that the weapon is an “ancient design” and that the quillons are “raw power vented from the primary central blade.” So the weapon is an older design, which explains why it needs vents. But now this only raises more questions, such as why does Kylo Ren (Adam Driver) want to use a more ancient design? Is it a matter of now knowing how to build a more advance, sophisticated lightsaber because he didn’t have formal training the same way that a Jedi or Sith might? J.J. Abrams has already told us that Kylo Ren isn’t a Sith, so that would make sense. But at the same time, maybe this is a conscious choice to make his weapon more dangerous in duels. If it’s unstable, maybe that’s what makes him so intimidating. In trailers and TV spots, Kylo Ren has said that he wants to finish what Darth Vader started, but maybe part of that is getting in tune with some of the more ancient teachings of the dark side. In the new canon, we don’t know much about the dark side of the Force, and maybe that’s what the Knights of Ren have taken inspiration from, in addition to their worship of Darth Vader. We’ll find out soon enough. http://www.slashfilm.com/the-force-awakens-kylo-renn-lightsaber-finally-explained/
Saw it by myself last week (didn't want any distractions) and loved it. I got just a small strange salty discharge emanating from my eyes when that opening crawl came on. Not sure what it was. Pros: Spoiler - I loved how the blasters had some kickback to them. Made them look much more real than any of the movies so far - Opening invasion scene was awesome. Unlike any of the other movies, these stormtroopers seem to have an edge to them instead of being bumbling idiots bumping their heads in doorways (even though I still think they look like they're smiling) - Rey was easy on the eyes....especially with that glistening sweat all over her... Cons: Spoiler - I can't believe I'm even typing this, but the musical score didn't do much for me. Not bad, it's just that nothing really stood out like in the sequels or even the prequels. Maybe I'll catch it on my 2nd viewing? - The dogfight scenes seemed like they were in fast motion instead of real time. Reminded me of the flying scenes in the prequels, unfortunately. I would have liked to have seen the ships flying at a more realistic speed - Ren wasn't evil enough, although reading through this thread, perhaps there's a reason for that. I would have preferred him not taking his mask off at all. The whole movie just seemed to lack a real badass villain - It didn't feel like Carrie Fisher had her heart in this movie. Seemed like she was just going through the motions so she could get paid
I watched Revenge of the Sith last night because I remember liking it the most of the prequels. It's just really ****ing awful. Particularly after seeing Force awakens a couple times over the last week. Hayden Christiansen's acting is just so bad.
