Yeah, some things are obvious. How many "only's" does Bagwell have? - Only first baseman with 200 HR /200 SB.... 300 HR... 400 HR / 200 SB IIRC, he's 2nd to Foxx in consecutive 100 RBI /100 BB /100 R seasons What else?
And Bagwell was much better defensively and stealing and/or running the bases. Bagwell is a MUCH better PLAYER than Thomas.
I wonder if that Steve Wine dude voted for Frank Thomas to get in. If he did then he absolutely should be removed from eligibility to vote. If not, well, he's a r****d but at least a sort of consistent one.
Looking at http://bit.ly/hof16. These guys concern me in how they vote: David Borges: Voted for Bonds and Clemens Schlling and Sammy Sosa; no Bagwell Bob Hertzel: Bonds and Clemens and Larry Walker, no Bagwell Steve Wine (mentioned above) Bonds and Clemens and Sosa. No Bagwell What is encouraging is that he is +10 in returning voters and he is at 100% in new voters so far.
Let 'em hear about it:

RT if you'd like @bhertzel to read Going to Bat for Jeff Bagwell. I'm not much one to pay too much attention to the Hall, but the Hardball Times (http://www.hardballtimes.com/) has been doing a series on the Hall this week. From an article today, http://www.hardballtimes.com/a-hall-of-stats-shows-a-haul-of-omissions/ Jeff Bagwell Jeff Bagwell is on the ballot for the sixth year. He debuted with 41.7 percent in 2011 — not a great percentage considering the career he had, but still a first-year performance that usually leads to a swift induction. It looked like he would take that path, as two years later he rose to 59.6 percent. But since then Bagwell has not only stagnated, but actually taken a step back. He finished with 55.7 percent in 2015. The best case I can make for Jeff Bagwell is this: Jeff Bagwell not being in the Hall of Fame is like the seventh best first baseman in history not being the Hall of Fame. Also from the article: In 1944, there were only 17 members of the Hall of Fame (inducted as players). All but one had a Hall Rating over 100 (Willie Keeler, at 98, is the only exception). Of the group, 13 actually had Hall Ratings over 200. In 1944, the Hall of Fame was reserved for the best of the best. It hasn’t been that way since. In 1945, nine players were selected by the Old Timers Committee. All nine were very good, but they were already nowhere close to the same level as previous inductees. ... From there, the percentage of deserving Hall of Famers (by Hall Rating) gradually decreased until the mid 1980s. It has steadily increased since, as it has gotten harder to get into the Hall of Fame.
Like me, many hall voters remember him repeatedly choking in the playoffs and dragging his arm behind him in his last few years. Ignore the playoffs (.226 avg, 2 hrs, 13 rbi) and tail end of his career and he's in...
Just reading this is infuriating. As of today, he's down to 81.7% with over 70 votes reported. I wonder if Griffey will be the first unanimous honoree?
I certainly hope Griffey gets voted in unanimously, not only because he's deserving, but also so that we can finally break down that wall. I don't hear it nearly as much as I used to (thankfully), but there are still those that say that there shouldn't ever be a unanimous selection.
He wasn't even the highest vote getter in the inaugural class, Ty Cobb was. Without a significant change it's simply not gonna happen. When 16 people found a way to not vote for Greg Maddux 2 years ago, that fact was driven home to me more than ever. At least a few people will always find a reason. There's no accountability, so people don't actually have to justify their stupid reason.
Holding on strong back up to 85.2% with 108 ballots in. 17 converts, and all 5 new guys have voted for him. https://onedrive.live.com/view.aspx?resid=F2E5D8FC5199DFAF!7156&ithint=file%2cxlsx&app=Excel&authkey=!AC7uZHAmcVGWgwE Still don't think he has a chance this year, but this seems like very positive traction. The voter purge may have been extremely good for him, but I suspect he will only get about 50% on the hidden ballot by people who don't want to defend their vote.
I'm getting the feeling that this might be his year. A lot of the bad votes are gone and he's picking up a lot of new votes. If this trend continues, he's going to get the call.
Wow... you guys are that confident!!! Just in the past year, posters were really down. Awesome if he makes it!!!!
The voter purge may have been a game changer for him. I didn't think he was ever gonna get in last year, but now I'm thinking he may get in fairly soon. Still wanna see the final tally before I get my hopes up.
