I wiped my old $99 HP touchpad before trying to sell it on eBay a few weeks ago.

Turns out it became a brick since you can't through the setup menu - HP closed down their servers for registration.

damn that sucks. seems like you almost have to convert it to android to be able to get any use out of it at this point anyway. though if you have a touchstone, it makes for a nice looking alarm clock lol.

Before you completely give up on it and toss, have you posted a question on the XDA forum? Perhaps its possible to revive it? Worst case, perhaps someone would be interested in it for its hardware alone...

Using mine as a white noise maker for my newest kid.

Not a great purchase, in retrospect.

lol. hey, you're getting use from an electronics purchase almost 5 years later...that ain't bad.

truth be told, it seems like any tablet is a pointless purchase for the vast majority of adults. there's nothing that i use a tablet for that isn't more convenient to just use my iphone for. and there isn't anything that i use my laptop/desktop for that's easier to use a tablet for. i'd assume most adults are the same way.

I think the $99 I spent on the TouchPad was well spent, thanks to a lot of hard work by numerous Android developers. I initially liked the way webOS worked, especially using Glimpse for multiwindow applications. But the inability to attract SW developers and HP's quick abandonment and I was ready to toss it and any HP product out the window.

Luckily, a number of smart developers succeeded and transforming it into a useful tablet. Sure, its heavy, has a pathetic camera, and compared to today's tablets its slow. But the display is really nice, the size of the display is nice, and almost five years later I still use it (mostly as a couch or bathroom computer). If it dies, oh well, but i the time I have had it I have gone through three phones.

Would I buy it now? heck no... but if you have one lying around, it is definitely worth the expense (fee) and effort to get it running and keep it running.

btw, if you stick with CM11 (ie. JC Sullin's CM11) everything (camera, bluetooth) works.

Though I think it's just too outdated and a bit of a hassle to use a Touchpad nowadays. Good for just messing with it and the novelty of having Android on it, but not something I would use give someone.

This tablet is garbage in 2015. You can buy a $40 tablet that is way more powerful with a better screen.

One bricked on its own and the other sits on the couch as a chrome cast remote.

love the "where are they now?" re-purposing stories of the fabled $90 HP TouchPad.

we've got a remote control, a white noise-maker, and an alarm clock. anybody just using it as a paper weight?

Haha, I actually looked at that site for like 5 minutes and then decided wasn't worth the hassle and threw it out.
