Spoiler Yeah, I think there is something to Force-Finn. By the end of the movie he's so comfortable with it that it seems to be his first weapon of choice to take on Kylo. I really don't think there is another explanation for him being able to even do that and get hits in. He also senses the deaths of those destroyed planets.
Are you trying to say that opinions formed amidst hype have never changed given time and perspective? Because that is a laughable position.
So far, we have big questions about Rey's origins... Finn's origins... Kylo's true nature... and how Luke will fit into all of this. I'd say that's a setup far greater than any of the OT movies had... but mainly because Star Wars (ANH) was originally designed to be a stand alone movie. Definitely craps all over whatever the prequels were trying to set up... such a wasted opportunity.
I enjoyed the film. I'm part of that 90%. Yes, I would recommend it over Paul Blart 2. That's not what we are discussing.
It's a very good film, and the only nag if it is one is that it felt like JJ took Lucas's keys to the Star Wars wagon, drove it around and made sure not to leave any dings behind. I was looking forward to insane cg worlds just for the sake of eye candy and geeking out to cheesy awkwardly delivered lines, but really though, the action scenes allowed generations to relive Star Wars without watching ANH over again. Those feels when you saw beloved characters and ship again for a long time is what made this movie rather than the director getting ahead of himself and proving he can satisfy everyone plus out his own stamp on it. I guess I gotta watch it again to see if my initial impression lasts.
Great movie. Loved how they re-imagined "A New Hope" and can't wait to see how the next two movies diverge from Episodes 5-6.
Kylo wasn't supposed to be intimidating, that's why they took the mask off of him so soon. He's just a guy that was pretending to be intimidating because there are no other force users around. When push came to shove he was scared, unsure of himself, and not great at all when he actually had to deal with somebody else in touch with the force. It sets the stage for a very interesting character arc.
He's like a phony to me, I mean he had no real reason to wear the mask except to seem more intimidating than he actually was. Vader had a reason to wear his mask and usually Sith do have a reason to hide their appearance as they do.
This, baffles me how so many people don't get this or would rather have a stereotypical badass without any depth and future character development.
Just saw it a second time. My thoughts (I don't think spoilers are necessary at this point): - Kylo Ren's movement reminds me of Keanu Reeves. Hence Keanu would have been badass in this. - I prefer r2d2 over blackberry 8. - miraculously Finn shoots at a 88.3% clip, while his storm trooper friends haven't hit a target since ANH. I bet when Kylo told the troops to kill the villagers at the beginning, they all missed. - princesa Leia is very unpleasant to look at. I hope she barely gets any screen time for the next 2 movies. - I hope the lightsaber fights in the next 2 movies are better. - When Poe gave FN2187 his name, he should have named him Fun. - Do they ever explain how characters are able to understand certain languages? Like how do they understand r2 or bb8 or a wookie for that matter? - This is my fav star wars movie after ROTJ.
The counterargument to that would be that because they answered nothing, you did not really have any reason to care for any of the new characters unless you forced yourself to, and their own reasons to care for each other seemed forced instead of organic. While you want the ability to set things up for the future episodes, it should not be at the expense of this film.
I've seen several want better lightsaber duels. TFA fights were very OT like in how raw they were. JJ explains how the PT is very choregrpahed to show the Jedi are in their prime where as in TFA and the OT the Jedi art is lost and these are very primitive fight styles bc there is no one to teach advanced lightsaber styles. Who actually wants to see a bunch of flips and pointless dancing? TFA and OT fighting has much more intense emotion to it than that garbage.
I got where they were going with Kylo . . . but they did not make it How old was he suppose to be anyway IF Rey is like 18~19 . . .then Ren should be 6~8 yrs older (If she was 6 when he killed the other padawan . . he should have been at least 14?) If the character is the same age as Rey . . . . It would feel better about the character for him to act that way . . .but for him to act that way as 26~27 . . . .its just weird and seems too out of place. I'm sure some folx know 25+ year olds that are that disfunctional .. but i don't Rocket River
LightSabre battles are suppose to be elegant NOT EVERYONE CAN DO IT . .. . I think someone said it is like Fencing or Samarai battles Not the HACK AT THE OTHER GUY type battles that anyone with a sharp weapon can do Remove that elegance from the equation . . . .its not special anymore Rocket River
