Lol... Not to get all nerdy.... But........ The ship in the image does have shields (for Star Wars)... They're in the domes. Now, as far as Tie Fighters... then no they don't have shields. Haha, sorry.... Lol, great meme but I know a lot of useless lore from playing the Tie Fighter flight sim back in the day!! I'm not sure if their shields function like Star Trek, but I know it was mentioned in RoTJ about them failing. :)

Haha, I like both... Obviously Star Trek paved the way for Star Wars.

Actually...we know X-wings have deflector shields. They are mentioned in the Death Star assault.

    It's a pretty close call.

Star Trek has more good movies (5) that Star Wars: New Frontier, The Voyage Home, Wrath of Khan, First Contract, the first JJ Abrams one + the shows. The rest of the movies are terrible.

Star Wars has 4 good films and what I would consider a top 3 film of all time in the original Star Wars.

All three original Star Wars films are better than the best Star Trek, so I have to give the edge to Star Wars. I love them both, though.

    Star Wars.

You have the Jedi, the Sith and all that Force stuff going on. And lightsabers. Star Trek will never have that. I liked the new Star Trek movies but the TV series were a bore to me.

Star Wars fans should watch the Clone Wars which is an animated series that takes place between Episodes II and III. It's part of the canon which makes you appreciate the Star Wars universe even more.

Too many people comparing movies to each other. Star Trek is a TV show and TNG beats anything in the Star Wars universe.

    also, repping all trekkies.

I don't think Star Trek is hard sci Fi. Here's my theory:

Tons of movies and books are classified as sci Fi, b/c the SETTING is in space. Most other genres (action, romance, etc) are classified due to PLOT. There is a plot type that I would classify as sci Fi, and that is what you find in 2001, The Martian, etc. Star Trek is just adventure set in space. Star Wars is a myth set in space.

I like Star Wars the best, because it hits me in the gut hardest with the music and everything. Real sci Fi enthusiasts tend to like more cerebral stuff, but that is not what Star Wars is going for. Star Trek isn't that cerebral anyway.

I view Star Trek as pure science fiction and Star Wars as fantasy, with a heavy dose of science fiction. Like a few of you, I was an adult when Star Trek burst upon the TV screens of America. While very dated now in terms of special effects, it was incredibly ground breaking for television during those 3 seasons. The obvious example is the interracial kiss between Kirk and Uhura, the first time that had ever happened on the 3 networks that provided the vast majority of television entertainment to the country. Remember, this was during a time of great social turbulence. The series ran from 1966 to 1969 and had an impact that continues to this day.

Star Wars? I love it. I'm a huge fan, but it is essentially a fantasy that takes place in a fictional galaxy. Forced to choose, I would choose Star Trek, but to me, it's like apples and oranges.

I only like the 2 JJ Star Trek films, they were entertaining though i doubt i ever revisit them. The other older Star Trek movies and show are such a bore to me. I just couldn't get into it.

Yeah the Star Trek TV shows examine politics and moral philosophy in a way that movies about laser swords and midget bears can't really approach.
