Number 1 in the nation! They're not just the best in Texas. Now, the Katy Tigers are officially the best across the country, finishing No. 1 on Monday in both the final MaxPreps Xcellent 25 National rankings and the NationalHSFootball.com's HSFB100. The Tigers were third and fourth last week in the two polls, but moved ahead of No. 2 Colquitt County (Moultrie, Ga.) and jumped to the front after the nation's top team - Corona Centennial from California - lost its state championship game to De La Salle. Katy (16-0) finished its season Saturday with a 34-7 win over previously unbeaten Lake Travis in the Class 6A Division II state championship. The win signified just what kind of season it was for the Tigers, who moved into a tie with Celina and Southlake Carroll for the most UIL state championships with eight. Katy's standout defense only allowed 62 points the entire season, pitching 10 shutouts in 16 games and giving up more than eight points just twice. Katy outscored its opponents 778-62 and at one point went five games without allowing a point. In addition to Lake Travis, Katy beat previously unbeaten Cibolo Steele 38-0 in the state semifinals and, in the region finals, scored a 35-17 victory over a Manvel team considered one of the nation's most talented. Both were nationally ranked at one point. The most points Katy allowed this season was 20 to Cypress Ranch, a state finalist in 2014. The Tigers trailed for just the second time all year against the Mustangs, but pulled away in the second half for a 59-20 victory.
I went to school in the same district at Katy and I don't think we've beaten them in the 35 year history of the school.
I guess cheating pays. Katy ISD has how many high schools now? 7? Yet they have not had the talent drain to other schools like other districts had...i.e Ft Bend. It is almost looks like someone is Katy ISD uses Katy High School as a recruiting tool for the city and district. The district allows Katy High to have liberal transfer rules to keep the pipeline flowing. They almost were caught for the 2nd time.
Someone told me that all the middle school have bought into the recruiting pipeline. They run similar systems. The thing is...Katy doesn't really produce elite D1 talent like other schools. It is all about a system.
I went to Memorial HS, personally I can really give two ***** about what Katy's doing... except for the simple fact that they are National Champions! Go Houston!
I think he means you don't see a lot of star athletes come out of there. Andy Dalton is the only big one I believe.
Right. You never saw a bunch of kids from Southlake getting D1 love, same with Westlake, Lake Travis, Katy, Cedar Park, and I'm sure others. It's a system that gets the kids rolling and prepping when they're about 12 years old, if not earlier.
I live in Katy, and it's actually quite the opposite. Unless their kids are superb athletes, most of the residents prefer the newer high schools like Cinco Ranch, Seven Lakes or Tompkins, which are superior performers academically. From my experience, which is primarily anecdotal so take it with a grain of salt, more people move into the Katy High zone to play football when their kids are young than have re-districting come to them.
Kam. Katy has 6 other high schools. I went to one of them lol. But it's crazy when we vacationed in Montana and mentioned Katy this guy said oh yea they have that awesome football team every year. That's nuts
Yeah, Katy's having a rough start. They lost to Westlake, almost lost to Collins in 2OT, and now gets thumped by The Woodlands.
They started 1-2 in 2008 which included a 47-0 loss to The Woodlands. They were the only team in their playoff bracket to end the season with a win.
