Well anyone can build or make their light saber whatever color they choose. Red just seems to be the go to for evil colors.
IIRC the Sith were actually a race of people who lived on Korriban. Their enitre race was force sensitive. I believe they were dark side of the force users because they were a violent race always at war. Anyway, they died out. I guess Dark Jedi just took the name Sith in their practice? I don't really remember but there were dark Jedi in the time of the Sith race also so....???? I don't know actually. I guess these "sith" are really pretty much just Jedi who use the dark side. None of them are actually sith race.

DMo will reach his potential if he crosses over to the dark side. He will be known as DMo Ren.

I don't see how that would go along with the plot.

Finn should die and Capela should replace him as the token black guy.
And then Capela and Rey can smash.

For real though, I think Star Wars would have been better if they had a cameo by Dikembe Mutombo....he could just randomly kick in a door and say "Who wants to sex Mutombo?" then leave. It would be awesome.

Regarding the first point, this is a nice little summary of the backstory leading up to EpVII and helps make sense of things.

Would the same thing apply to Lin? Maybe he would have less turnovers if he became

Don't usually post in the Hangout, but I'll go ahead and post my opinion on this.

First of all, Star Wars is HUGE with me. My first memory was going to the first made Star Wars movie in the theater when they were re-released in the theater when I was 2 in 1979. Star Wars has had a huge impact on my life. They're my favorite movies, and I've definitely watched each of the original trilogy hundreds of times.

I'd give the original trilogy movies at least 6 out of 5 stars each. I'd give the prequels between 1.5 and 2 stars each. I'd give this new movie maybe 3.5 stars at the most.

I thought the directing and production were a lot better than the prequels

The plot wasn't so special. The plot for the original trilogy....felt like it almost had to be told. Like it had to be discovered, not conjured up so much. This plot.....it was sort of like you had a group of ppl around a table saying, "Well, we have to make a new Star Wars movie. Let's think of a plot." I mean ANOTHER battle station that has to be destroyed??? ANOTHER shield that must be brought down???? ANOTHER villain with a mask and altered voice????? ANOTHER family relationship between a villain and good guy????? They just ripped off themselves again. Nothing clever in the plot IMO. I thought the Timothy Zahn Admiral Thrawn trilogy had a MUCH better plot and MUCH better characters. I didn't expect them to use that plot, but it's interesting that those books had a much better plot than this movie IMO.

Here's something i found from google search.

"A Dark Jedi is one who has abandoned the path of the Light by abandoning the Jedi Code and using the Force for his own selfish ends. The Sith refers to an ancient warrior civilization native to Korriban, a distant planet beyond the Old Republic, who were said to be force sensitive. During the time of the Old Republic, a group of Jedi pursuing their own ends rebelled against the Order. What followed was a bitter war which lasted nearly 100 years. It was called the Hundred Year Darkness and ended in 6900 BBY (before Battle of Yavin), after which the Dark Jedi were exiled from the Republic. They flew to Korriban and to their amazement found that here was a civilization which was extremely force sensitive. Being much superior in the ways of the Force, due to their Jedi training, the Dark Jedi were looked upon as gods and they came to dominate the Sith and established the Sith Empire which grew to surrounding planets and was extremely prosperous. The Kings descended from the Dark Jedi and their intermingling with the Sith race came to be known as Sith Lords."

So the whole "only 2 there are. A master and an apprentice" is a rule established by some other EU character who also started to use the "Darth" title. Mind you that all of this is EU which basically isn't canon anymore. This new trilogy might use Snoke as some ancient character that will tell or explain the new canon history. Who knows though..

Really enjoyed it, brought back childhood movie nostalgia. I’d say they could have had more suspense with Kylo Ren though. He took his mask off too soon in the movie. Would have had more impact had he removed his mask for the first time in front of his father and it's then we see this young villain.

Now that the new tentpole for the franchise has been planted, I expect Disney will start fleshing out the new EU in various forms. I don't expect much in the movies though, the casuals tend not to care for stuff like the rule of 2.

I agree to an extent. The first time watching the movie, it bothered me a little that it had so many familiar elements in the story. But when it flashed some originality, it was every bit as good as the original movies. And then watching it a second time, I forgot about all those similar plot points and I enjoyed the hell out of it. For me, Episode VII is probably gonna rank right below Empire. It was a great way to start a new trilogy, and emphasis on start...the rest of the series hopefully won't tread familiar ground (at least as much)

And I think that Abrams and co. felt they had to connect to the original trilogy to bring people back to the franchise. And I think that move worked very well for them, especially since there were enough differences to still separate itself from IV, V and VI. Take Rey's introduction. Similar to Luke (and even Anakin) since we find her on a desert planet. But whereas Rey seemed to want a bit more out of her life yet was reluctant to leave, Luke's departure couldn't come soon enough for him. Set against the backdrop of a long completed battle, rummaging for parts just to put enough food on the table, escaping Jakku, not with a strong, male character's help, but her helping him really...these are some fresh elements that together were a perfect way to introduce her. And the movie has so many more examples of this.
