Klay Thompson: I'm the best shooting guard in the NBA

Parsons became horrific after getting a reputation as good on defense as a rookie, not klay. Klay is mediocre, little better then harden. Harden's lack of effort vs Klay's lack of a brain. Klay has regressed from before even though he has no responsibility on offense and plays low minutes

 

what? you fail at reading comprehension. I said that Klay is an elite defender.
Just not as good as DPOY caliber Kawhi and first team all defence caliber players like Allen and Butler. (or paul george).

And just because someone like Klay lacks iq, doesnt' mean he is a bad defender. Allen doesnt' seem to be very bright either and he's one of the best, probably the best two years ago in the wings.

I could see allay easily putting up better volume stats - principally scoring, but rebounding, assists - on a lesser team, without Steph. With less but still solid efficiency. And continuing to be a grade A defender.

At no point in your rant did you realize Klay has a higher Ortg and Drtg than Harden this year.

And the big gap in D isn't well reflected in the stats.

 

His entire role on offense is to come off a pick or stand there and shoot when someone passes him the ball....it's not like he's creating or anything

 

Harden has the tools to be the best player in the world. Klay doesn't.

 

Klay Thompson is not an elite defender. Not after what Harden did to him in the WCF. He's above average but several tiers below Iguodala & Green.

 

It's hard to capture the difference with advanced metrics. Klay is, by the eye test, the superior defender and he's definitely more locked in play after play. His DRtg is marginally lower and ORtg marginally higher. However, his actual +/- is far lower than Harden. My understanding is that DRtg and ORtg are more influenced by team offense and defense, suggesting that Klay plays on an excellent offensive and defensive team but that his contribution to the BPM of the team is not as significant as Harden's. Moreover, Harden has caught up quietly on D (see his December splits) but Klay is having a ridiculous December on offense, so he might be slacking a bit on D.

Bottom line is, Klay started off slow and now he's heated up a ton on offense, but he may have taken a step back on defense. Harden started off slower on both ends, but seems to have slowly gotten closer to last year's form. The metrics are a wash or favor Harden, but Klay seems to have the better all around game by the eye test right now, primarily driven by his scorching shooting over the past 3 weeks. But who would I trust as my franchise 2 guard long term? Harden.

 

Would you say this about Curry as late as three seasons ago?

 

That's fair. And like I mentioned, if Harden returns to last year's form, it isn't even close

 

Don't you think having Steph affects those numbers? Image if the Rockets had at least decent shooters. Harden USED to be an efficient shooter, but we have putrid shooters and all the pressure is on him to create.

That is completely idiotic. Please educate yourself on GSW's offensive and defensive sheme. It REQUIRES players with not only good passing skills but good bball iq to read what the defence gives them, and to be able to switch effectively.

I posted in the previous page how Klay is without Steph.

 

I live in the bay so i get all their games, and if you say Klay passes well and is smart it just means you aren't watching.

 

Thompson is more similar to Kyle Korver than James Harden. He's like a rich man's Kyle Korver.
