Can we say with any reasonable degree of certainty whether Morris would be a good or bad fit with team?

I can't, especially after being absolutely sure that Lawson would complement Harden and the Rockets as team. Same could be said about Josh Smith and the Clippers, albeit to a lesser extent given our pg deficiencies from last year.

Given all of that, Morris may be the stretch 4 that this team needs to make things work. Who really knows, after this crazy, upside-down start of the current season?

    Bottom line is he's

    1. better than BREW we shed his contract
    2. He will be locked up for a better contract than jones would be this summer
    3. 10-15% better FT shooter than jones (great for playoffs) & increases our team FT%
    4. Be a pick & pop option (this brings more ball movement options & plays) we haven't had this since PPAT & MCHALE sets.

I've actually provided tons of statical evidence that supports that fact that Markief is at worst a scrub and at best still not as good as Terrence Jones.

Markief has 3 seasons including this one where his FG% was .399, .407 & .386. That is just not bad, that is absolutely repulsive for a power forward. The year you referenced when the Suns won 48 games in 13/14 Markief hit .486 of his shots. That year was a statistical anomaly as he hasn't done it again since or previously.

Markief either can not or refuses to rebound. His career average per 36 minutes is 7.7 (over 1 rebound a game less than TJ) and he is getting worse. Last season and this season are both below his career averages at 7.1 and 7.3 per 36 minutes. For a power forward, that is just repugnant. What's worse is that he has never played next to a dominant rebounder.

Lets talk 3pt shooting. His 3pt% has been on a downward trend for 5 seasons now. His averages since being drafted are .347, .336, .315, .315, & .311. For someone that is supposed to be a shooter, he has not been successfully working on his craft. He is getting worse and there is no defending that.

Markief does not block shots. Per 36 minutes he is less than 1 a game which is inflated because in his 1st two seasons that stat was over 1 a game per 36 but the average has dipped to as low as .6 per game as his actual minutes have increased.

Markief is not a play maker and his defense while in some games is good, in other games he is clearly disinterested. For a player with so little offense he needs to bring it on the defensive end every single night and he absolutely does not. Whats worse is that even when he does play defense he does not rebound.

No he was not. That statement couldn't be further from the truth. The two best players for the Suns that season were Eric Bledsoe and Goran Dragic. There really wasn't any debate on that. Gerald Green also had a career year that season hitting averaging 16PPG while nailing 40% of his 3 pointers.

As far as impact I would also put PJ Tucker ahead of Markief that season because PJ was easily the teams best defensive player that season. He only averaged 10PPG but he did it hitting 39% of his 3 point shots.

So no, Markief was most definitely not that teams 2nd best player the year they won 48 games. He wasn't even the teams 2nd best player last season when they only won 39 games.

He is a diva, period. To say anything different is just sticking your head in the sand for the sake of argument. But a lot of NBA players are divas. The question really boils down to is this, does the talent he brings to the court make putting up with him worth it? Hell no. Certainly not based on anything he has ever done on the basketball court.

This statement makes zero since if you are trying to improve the product on the court. Jones by himself is better than Markief. He is a better option with the ball in his hands. He can lead the break better, he can score in the post better, he has a superior 3 point shot and he is a better all around rebounder (which is sad since TJ is not a good rebounder either).

You don't pay a player 8 million a season guaranteed for the next 4 seasons to be the 4th big man off of the bench. And if you believe in the coaching staff and front office then letting walk in the off-season for nothing and trusting in the development of Montrez as your 4th big man off the bench is a superior option to trading for very bad back of the bench NBA diva.

    Oh, you again?

I whittled down the size of your post. To quote it in full would crash the server.

I'm beginning to think Markieff also committed the crime of.armed robbery and you were the victim.

Although I do wonder if he meets any criteria we don't already have, besides the fact he's locked in at 8 million for a couple more years. Jones actually woke up and is playing well (but for how long?) Unless we are that desperate to bid Brewer adieu.

So you prefer to see Terrence Jones out there getting killed?

He's an asset because he's not good enough to be the starter on the Rockets? Not sure I understand the logic.

I get the logic in going into a hot market where you will have to over pay your guys, securing a deal that gives you a likewise player on a more secure contract, but it doesn't mean likewise player means he's good. Id rather the Rockets just give more minutes to Capela and Harrell, and gamble with DMo & Jones' free agency.

Yeah we were also supposed to recoup the career of an alcoholic who showed up to practice drunk and was allergic to defense.

Our days of being the cocky team who thinks they can rehabilitate anyone should be over with. The Rockets were fortunate to get the best Josh Smith they could have possibly gotten.

But just assuming you can rehab anyone's careers is arrogance and delusion with the current climate needing rehabilitation on its own.

This isn't the 2010 blue collar Battier/Chuckwagon Rockets. This is a delicate locker room with enough issues on their own. Why in the world we would want our GM to double down is beyond me.

He's an asset because : a) he will be one of the best backup pfs in the league , could start in some teams. b) he will be LESS paid than the other backup pfs.
There's no purpose in gambling with TWO rfas in next FA while also possibly losing your starting c or having to pay him max money. That would be the worst strategy. It's like sending a letter to all the other teams inviting them screw us up.
Addiction is not the same as getting techs.
And because this is still a risk with his felony charges is PRECISE the reason why you may even be able to get him and on top of that by dumping a guy with some of the worst trade value in the whole league, Brew.

Markieff didn't have off the court problems, and he didn't even got so many techs before his brother got there. Everyone agrees taht the twins should be separated because they affect each other negatively, same as everyone agrees that the one who leads of the two is Marcus.
And Marcus in Detroit right now hasn't caused any lockeroom problems and he hasn't start commiting crimes either.

So you hate that I respond to this thread with facts? Oh me again? I'm sorry I didn't realize this was a thread specifically designed for posters wanting j*zz on one another over the mere thought of Markief Morris.

Feel free to debunk any of the facts I posted but don't get pissy at someone that doesn't share your desire to suck Markief's dick. My only issue with Markief is that he is not a very good basketball player and does nothing to make the product on the floor better. What is it with your infatuation with him?

Which specific part of Markief's game do you think will qualify him as one of the best back up power forwards in the game? Shooting? Rebounding?

Morris would be what Lawson has been thus far, grass is greener until the malcontent is on your team.

actually everything. Look at most backup pfs around the league. Most of them are terribly deficient or one way players.

Markieff is a talented offensive player, despite what his numbers say.

He has a face up arsenal from the high post which is something that this team lacks. He was a pivotal piece of the Suns offense when they were actually good and was one of their higher usage offensive "workhorses". He also moves well off the ball/screens, which is another thing this team sorely lacks.

I am not all that high on him, but I am objective.

It comes down to next year. Basically if you have decided you are going to let Jones walk, would you rather have nothing, or would you rather have Morris locked in on a reasonable deal.

Despite what you may think, and depending on what Morey's free agency goals are, an acquisition of Morris does make some sense.

His contract is nice and he can play some, but his off court issues is not what Rockets need.

    IND - Jordan Hill
    CLE - Tristan Thompson
    CHI - Taj Gibson
ORL - Channing Fry and Jason Smith
ATL - Tiago Splitter and Mike Muscala
BOS - Kelly Olynyk and David Lee
    NYK - Kyle O'Quinn
    WAS - Nene
    MIL - John Henson
SAS - Boris Diaw and David West
    OKC - Ennis Kanter
LAC - Josh Smith (as bad as he has been)
    DAL - Dwight Powell
    MEM - Brandon Wright
HOU - DMo and Terrence Jones
    POR - Ed Davis
    NOP - Ryan Anderson
    LAL - Tarik Black

I would take any of those players over Markief Morris. I would even take his brother Marcus over him but since Marcus is a starter in DET I didn't include him on the list.

Which one? Lets discuss it because if you put less than 40% of your shots in the basket is not that impressive on offense. He doesn't create offense for his teammates. He is not a particularly great passer. I'm willing to discuss exactly which skill set he has that is so unique but he sure looks like your typical spare when I watch him play.
