The darksiders are highlighted in red..the resistance/jedi are highlighted in blue! It's so obvious! The poster gives it away.

    Loved the movie.

Trying to track down another friend who's interested in the movies - so I can see it again.

Initially thought that Rey was Han's daughter. However after seeing how bad ass she was with the Force and how she seemingly just picked it up and was able to hold off a Sith Apprentice - I think she is a Skywalker. The Force is obviously strong with her.

Not even caring whether she turns to the dark side. She has a fan in me for the rest of my life. On the verge of falling in love.

Most enjoyable part of the movie for me was seeing Rey's [let's be honest it is not Luke's anymore] lightsaber go straight to her out in the woods.

When she came to and saw Fin go down I was praying it would happen - and you could sense that it was going to when they focussed on Ren - was still awesome to see it finally happen.

.... Someone please tell me I'm not the only one - but when Rey made the climb and found Luke - you weren't wanting Luke to say some cheesy line "that's no longer my lightsaber - this is"
*cuts to Luke brandishing a red lightsaber

I wonder if we will get Obi Wan as well. We have already sorta heard from him in Force Awakens. If you recall in Rey's force dream you hear someone yell Rey's name. That was in fact Obi Wan with Ewan McGregor voicing him (confirmed by James Arnold Taylor who voiced Obi Wan in The Clone Wars) sorta like how we briefly heard Qui Gon Jinn with Anakin in Attack of the Clones.

@t_betts94 yes, it was me originally but they replaced my version with Ewan. I guess if I'm gonna be replaced it should be him!
— James Arnold Taylor (@JATactor) December 19, 2015

Man... I know, a bit frustrated over that. :(

I was like man.... They can fix him... Then he fell, then the whole thing imploded into a sun... Thanks a lot Disney!!! No hope for a return :( I mean if they were going to do it... At least make it more epic. Why couldn't it be Leia or her bro???!!!

I think you're looking way too much into the poster.

By your logic, Finn is the Jedi, the Super Death Star becomes a weapon for the Resistance, the X wings, R2 and C3PO are villains and BB8, Poe and Phasma are conflicted as to what side they are on. Simpler explanation, they placed them in those loactions for aesthetic purposes to balance the artwork. Another possible expanation and one supported by the movie...Kylo and Rey are next to each other, weapons drawn at the same angle to foreshadow their conflict with each other and opposite but parrallel journeys; both are learning to wield the force but for different purposes and both may feel an inner turmoil with the force.

I don't see Rey turning, and I think it'd be a disservice and betrayal to see the franchise's first true female Jedi lead become a villain. Not to mention that we witness Kylo being pulled to the light side only to kill Han and embrace the dark. I like that parrallel to the Luke/Vader fight. Kylo did what Luke wouldn't. So to me, Kylo crossed the line and I hope he stays a villain, and Rey stays good, and we get some awesome fight scenes between the two.

Loved the movie, but while I enjoyed the connections to the original trilogy and the easter eggs sprinkled throughout, it was when the film stood on it's own legs that it truly felt awesome to me. The final act was incredible and some of the shots and set designs were breathtaking; I could probably stare at them for hours marveling at every detail.

Daisy Ridley killed it as Rey and is easily my favorite character so far in this new trilogy. Poe isn't that far behind and I want to see more of him. I liked Boyega but hopefully he settles into his role better in the next film. Too much forced humor from his character. And Phasma was given too little to do.

So this was a great start to kck off a new era of Star Wars, and he's hoping now that they got the nostalgia out of the way, they carve out a new path for these films.

Going on from my previous post

About thinking Rey is Luke's daughter.

Is the title a giveaway? As in The Force Awakens.

It's not called The Force Is Born.

I think Rey has had training in the Force from a very young age. We see in her vision that she's abandoned when she's around 5/6 years old.

Luke had a lot of time to begin training her before he had to go into hiding - and before leaving wiped her memory so she could not cause any unintentional harm to herself by revealing who she is. Not sure this ties in too well with the whole he's gone for 30 years thing - but could be explained fairly easily.

Having been trained already in the Force, when she's in the near proximity of her father's lightsaber - the force awakens in her.

That's why to me it isn't a 'horrendous plot error' that she is so capable of handling Ren in their battle.

Ren was born to Han and Leia - neither of whom are Jedi.

Rey is pure lineage of powerful Jedi. Darth Vader -> Luke -> Rey

Even without proper training I can see her sticking it to a poorly trained Sith Apprentice. (poorly trained because we've never seen anyone whip out their lightsaber to destroy computers before, plus his internal struggles with whether he's made the right decision or not)

EDIT: I'm think Leia does becomes a Jedi Knight outside of the movie universe? I don't think in the movies she is though? I have not seen the originals for some time

Not disagreeing with you or his points.... But...
I think Rey definitely has some dark hatred (probably from her upbringing from being abandoned) and rage. You can see some of this in the fight with Kylo... It could be a rehash of Vader being made or... it could go the other way like you've mentioned. I just think Kylo is being played to get Rey because she will be more powerful if she can get turned for the Order, I'm okay with either way, just to me it looked like if Rey had a bit longer Kylo would be no more in a very Anakin style way, kinda like how what's his name (Doku /s) died in 3...

Anyway I'm still frustrated about the bridge scene, I definitely would have preferred a better death for Han Solo though, haha, I know Ford wanted his character to die since RoTJ... but come on... that **** was weak for Indiana Jones!!! Anyway could definitely see your points too, especially since first lead compared to prequels, so they'll probably play it safe and have her mirror Luke's journey...

    Hmm...
Wouldn't Leia's offspring also be pure jedi too, well direct descendents? I mean it's mentioned in RoTJ that if Luke fails, Leia has the force too.. even though she denies understanding it, it's also mentioned when Yoda tells Luke he has a twin. I only know this because recently re-watched originals... Basically Yoda in RoTJ prevents Luke and Leia from making the ultimate Jedi, lol jk.

Going to try and see it a second time at the Bullock Museum Imax in Austin over the holidays. Really love that theater but not sure it is as easily best in TX after conversion to digital.

Wow, what an experience! Too bad I saw it in a theater with people who has no knowledge of the Star Wars universe. However I did go to a nicer place where there are only 24 seats, and I see a bunch of mothers/fathers taking their child or just casual movie goers on a date. So I wasn't really expecting a total nerdfest.

I was pretty much the only one who get excited when they showed the millennium Falcon for the first time or when Han and Chewie got on board. Nobody else also seemed to notice the Easter eggs scattered around. And I thought I was a casual Star Wars fan. Having to explain the plot and history to my gf was annoying.

Man I got really, really sad when Kylo put that lightsaber through Han Solo. It was like watching a figure you grew up with, someone you've learned to love and care for, die.

But true to my goal going into this movie, Kylo Ren is my favorite character in this. I will be rooting for him all the way. Hopefully he'll make it to episode IX. I'm hoping he'll dethrone whatever sith lord comes up in the next one and becomes the ultimate badass going against the Jedi. I do hope he changes his light saber though. It looked great in the trailer and pictures, but seeing it in action just looks kind of silly.

IMO she didn't really use the dark side. She just used the force to shield herself from Kylo's intrusion and used it against him.

Lelz, I can just see it. The ultimate super Jedi with physical and mental defects.

    ..........

Also can we stop using spoilers? I think people who hasn't seen this movie will stay away from this thread anyway. If you haven't seen it, you should.

I really need to see it again to soak up every last detail!

And while a few have mentioned her using the dark side to defeat Kylo, I honestly didn't see it that way. I saw someone who's still raw with the Force (even Klyo mentioned this) and didn't quite have her emotions in check. So she just witnessed Han dying and Finn seriously wounded, of course she's going to be a little emotional. It's not unlike Luke in ESP and ROTJ. And - just a theory on my part - I think in order to have a balance with the force you have to accept both the light and the dark. It'd be impossible to completely block out your emotions; the trick is to not let them overwhelm you, which I don't feel she did. And you even get that moment where Kylo's about to kill her, but she tries to calm herself and find the Force within her.

But it could be an interesting storyline if Snoke is just using Kylo to get to Rey; that could set up an even nastier confrontation with those two since we've already seen Kylo's rage unleashed (albeit on some computer terminals). Kylo being resentful of Rey's powers and all.

And yeah, Leia's offspring would be powerful with the Force too. Luke mentions it to her directly in ROTJ, and you see her feeling his presence in Empire and ROTJ and also Han in Force Awakens. She has the Force within her, but I guess chose to never become trained in it.

In trying to figure out who Rey is, I even thought about possible connections to Star Wars Rebels, but that wouldn't work with the timeline since Rebels takes place before the original trilogy and I doubt they would use one of those characters in such a big way. It's still interesting to see how everything connects though!

Just so many awesome little moments in this... like Rey shooting a stormtrooper for the first time. She had the look of someone trying to grapple with the fact that she just killed a human being, but then immediately had to get back into the fight. Subtle but resonating character moments that make the movie all the more better!

It was exactly like watching that.

I'm sorry, I am trying to let yall have your fun. But the whole I am a sci-fi geek movement is so freaking annoying to me. 9 out of 10 times most of yall wasn't even born when the original star wars came out, because 45 to 50 year people aren't going to act like they are sci-fi geeks.

I still maintain, the only thing original and enthralling about Star Wars now is something JJ Abrams had nothing to do with: the music.

And now he's turning star wars into game of thrones. smh

You don't have to be a Sci fi geek to appreciate an awesome remake of a show that so many grew up watching. I'm 41 and felt like a 7 year old again yesterday. It literally took me back in time a bit.

I thought it was incredibly well done.

Up to you if you're not into it breh. I may be years late when I saw the Star Wars series for the first time in the 1st grade and loved it, though my favorite was ROTJ, unlike many others. I also enjoyed the prequels when it came out. I really enjoyed all 6 as a package, as disappointing as the prequels were compared to the originals.

So I wasn't alive to experience the Star Wars craze when it came out in 1977, so what? So people can't love the Beatles because they were born in 1999?

This line right here says everything about the current movies. In 1977, when we came out of the original Star Wars, we didn't say geee, it was really well done. We weren't THAT self-aware.

We had our imaginations prodded with a wholly original film.
