Yeah, that's why he really can't stay. If he was doing a good job, or even a decent job when Harden wasn't out there then there would be no problem, he's been meh at best offensively and tragic defensively. Can't have that.
The 16th - 18th pick in the draft has value. Nurkic, Giannis, Jones, Vucevic, Kawhi, Bledsoe, etc. etc. Have all gone in that 15 to 18 range. We aren't talking about losing a franchise altering player or anything (unless its the occasional Kawhi) but that 15 to 18 range definitely gives away a good chance you will get a solid young building block. It was worth it for me at the time because I thought Lawson was good. It probably was iffy for Morey because obviously he wasn't that high on him to begin with. He probably hated himself for making that deal knowing that Lawson was = to a player like Aaron Brooks, Norris Cole, etc. in the Rockets system playing on a team where he was relegated to playing off the ball or in a 6th man role.
Yea it is getting a little tiresome seeing that. Yes, he has not fit well with Harden... He also hasn't fit well with Capela, Thornton, Terry, Brewer, Ariza, Howard, Dmo, and Jones. He just hasn't played good basketball. He is so hesitant, whether it's shooting or driving. Last night the Lakers were basically playing that Rondo defense on Lawson where they were sagging 8 feet off of him just daring him to shoot. I have no doubt that with a better training camp and offseason, he might have had more confidence, and played much better. But at this point, it might be best for both sides for him to get a chance somewhere else. At the same time, his money coming off the books this offseason has value as well, so it will be interesting to see what happens. I would imagine this "leak"came from Lawson's reps, and that they are pushing the Rockets to try and find a deal, just as much as the Rockets are actually looking to get a deal done.
Oh, it's Dan Fegan pushing this. I haven't noticed a different team from him starting or not. We still have the same issues, except now hes a scapegoat and a contract year player. I see why Fegan is doing this.
Probably going to get crap in return.. But I'm sure les will do any trade to get his lazy ass out of here.
Good luck finding one single team interested in Lawson Morrey. Esp if you dont' want to eat salary for next year.
Can't really tell if he has just been bad or it is a fit issue. Regardless, thank god he convinced him to make his final year non guaranteed.
If Morey made a trade b/c freaking Clutchfans was pressuring him.......please. If you're in the position to make decisions, you're not doing your job if you bow to pressure. That said, the Lawson trade was still a no brainer. We aren't hurt that bad by it at all.
I have to agree with this. I don't have any idea what this coaching staff is doing. You know your personnel during the off-season. How hard is it to devise some plan about the various roles each player will have given their strengths and weakness....which should even be more obvious on a team of frickin' veterans. Then, when training camp starts you communicate those roles to players. Tell them what you expect of them. It doesn't have to be set in stone, but there at least has to be some high-level plan. You can focus on refining those roles in the preseason. It's a bit of a tip-toe act because you're dealing with big egos, who may not want to be boxed into certain roles. But that's just something you have to do as an effective coach. Convince each player how valuable their role is and help them see how it will lead to victories. From Day 1 this season, there has never been any sort of overarching vision on how this team's puzzle pieces were supposed to fit together. I think the only firm directive each players has is that they are to jack up a three at every sliver of an opportunity. Everything else if a free-for-all. The ONLY winning formula this season was going to be Ty Lawson as a high-assist/low-turnover point guard that he has been his entire career. With James Harden playing off the ball a lot more than last season, conserving some of his energy, getting more open looks. This should have been the #1 focus from the beginning of training camp, and everyone should have been on board with it before the season started. The attempt at instilling any sort of "team vision" was so half-assed that it was going to fail no matter what. Just one, big frustrating mess.
I've never been so dumbfounded about a player before. Lawson used to kill the Rockets. Slashing to the basket, hitting mid range shots, dropping dimes left and right. This Lawson I just don't understand. All he does is walk the ball up, pass it to someone else and then stand in the corner. He looks like a damn zombie. No emotion at all. But then again the whole damn team looks like zombies this year. So I don't know if it's the team or Lawson or space aliens or what. Given his salary, talent, and non guaranteed deal should be able to get something decent in return. Who else is out there disgruntled and needs a change of scenery?
This is not really accurate. It just means that if you use an exception to acquire anyone, then you can't aggregate them for two months (after the trade deadline in this case). If we can trade Lawson without an exception, which I believe is the only thing we can do, then we can subsequently trade anyone received using aggregation.
I didn't mean because of Clutchfans even though yes... I'm sure he knew that fans were smart enough to know that the Rockets needed guard help, and that Lawson was available so they would obviously applaud him if he made the deal (which we all did) The real pressure that Morey got to make the deal came from Agents, Lawson (pushing his agent), Harden's relationship with Ty influencing, etc. etc. The fact that Morey build in so much compromise on his end speaks to the fact that he was getting pressure from many other places besides just Denver. Making the player non-guarantee a deal on an existing contract does not speak to confidence in the player from Morey or another GM in that situation.
What's his value now? "Daryl, send us a 1st rund pick and escorts along with him, no other way this works."
What matters now is that Lawson himself has given up completely on trying to fit in and is asking for a trade. Who is his agent?
