I had a friend who did bodyguard work for Saudi royal families visiting the U.S. Most of them were regular enough. Though the few ones that werent would go WAY overboard with lavish spending and entitlement.

I think in this case its the "Royal" the old fashioned authoritarian way that leads to excesses. Just so happens there even IS still "royalty" systems and mindsets that exists in Arab countries, when other countries have moved away from it. Add mega-riches, restrictive religion along with pro-masculine/"patriarchal" values, and yeah that might lead to warped perspectives.

 

You and I live in our own Western paradigm. An Arab across the globe thinks the exact same of us when they see some Catholic Priests molesting some little boys and assume that this occurs on a regular basis in the Western World because they live an insular lifestyle like most humans do including most of us Westerners. With how journalism is today, we will always hear the worst of other cultures. When our experience with other cultures is the media and the media mainly focuses on negative news because the negativenews sells, it's easy to for us Westerners to have a false sense of moral superiority. We all live in a bubble and you aren't immune to it as much as you want to deny it.

Every culture believes they are morally superior to every other culture.
