The pollsters are saying Iowa hasn't had this big of an upswing (+21%) in the last 5 Presidential Caucus cycles.

As long as Ted Cruz is coming up with stories like his crazy insane theory about the Iranians shooting a nuclear missile straight up into the air off of ship in the ocean and every system in the U.S. going out and the country collapsing, then nobody running against Ted Cruz will need to worry. LOL

According to the most recent NBC/WSJ poll, Ted Cruz has closed to within 5 points of Donald Trump nationally. Cruz is right on Trump's "6" and appears to be closing fast.

Trump is interesting though - if you look at the actual people supporting him, they aren't the extreme right - he's basically pulling from all segments of the GOP fairly equally. It's moderates, conservatives, tea partiers, men, women, young, old, etc. It's just an odd subset of each of those groups that is very anti-establishment. Basically, his appeal appears to have nothing at all do with his specific views - which is probably why he gets away with saying so much crazy stuff. No one really cares what he says - they just care about how he's saying it and how he's fighting the "establishment".

That doesn't sound right at all. Here's a graph from 2012:

    http://www.realclearpolitics.com/ep...owa_republican_presidential_primary-1588.html

Both Cain and Gingrinch had 20+ point moves over the course of about a month. Santorum got 25% of the vote after polling around 5% a month earlier.

I think ultimately the standard demographics will decide the race, but be careful what you wish for. No one I have ever heard makes more plausible sounding policy statements out of crap than Mr. Cruz. Ms. Clinton will need a refresher in debate techniques to keep the questions and answers on her track.

A few years ago my significant other saw him give a stump speech at a conference she was attending in San Antonio and Cruz surprised her at how effective he was in front of what could have been tough group. Definitely good at tailoring a speech to fit his audience. In her opinion, all the more frightening because of it. In her words, "He comes across as a very believable liar. People that don't know him for what he really is will be fooled. I thought the guy was very scary before. I find him scarier now."

It's scary to have such competent, smart opponents, indeed, Deckard. Hillary would be humiliated in the debates. Cruz might even *gasp* ask about her pathetic track record of failures!

Latest Fox News Iowa Republican Presidential Caucus Poll

    Cruz 28, Trump 26, Carson 10, Rubio 13, Bush 5, Paul 5, Christie 2, Fiorina 2, Huckabee 1, Kasich 1, Santorum 0, Pataki 1, Graham 0

So this is the 2nd poll in Iowa showing Trump trailing Cruz. Cruz is the "sane sounding" version of Trump. Basically, Trump's message is resonating with many
Republicans...it's just his style is scaring the crap outta moderate republicans and swing voters. Cruz fixes this problem.

He's not my favorite candidate, but as a conservative I can get behind Cruz. I could never get behind Trump.

Cruz's record of crankiness in the Senate makes him look to me like the classic guy who pulls well in the primaries, but not so much in the general. Is the guy who voted for Clinton, then Bush, then Obama really going to see his combativeness as a plus?

I guess maybe he can lose a "see who sucks more" race with a Hillary and get the job. But I have trouble seeing anybody but the core base being excited about him.

You are right. The most important thing is to continue business as usual and not rock the boat. Anyone who disagrees must be a lunatic.

Clearly, the two most prominent establishment candidates, Hillary Clinton and Jeb Bush are the obvious candidates that any sane citizen of our country will be supporting. The good news is that at least the Democratic voters know their place and have it together. If only the Republican voters would regain their senses and get behind Jeb Bush, all would be well again.

I guess it's easier to stand on the sidelines and hitch about how much better you'd fare if you were in charge and stay pure.

To do anything, you have to get elected. Is submitting the 200th "repeal Obamacare" Bill really "making a difference" or grandstanding? Is picking public fights with your party leadership "getting things done" or is it theater?

The truth is, you need to get that wishy-washy guy in the middle to vote for you. Failure to understand that is a failure of even the most basic capacity for imagination. You'll just keep getting "Palin-ed" until you figure that out.

No republican will win. And from the sound of it, you're acting like you don't support Trump, the front runner atm.
