Yeah, all true. I guess if everyone is overpaid, no one is overpaid. 200M just seems like a lot for a guy who's struggled to be consistent.
When are the Cubs not the favorite before everyone remembers that they are the Cubs and they ultimately blow it?
Don't forget Zobrist plus warren in a trade. They have young players like Soler and Javier Baez they can get a good young pitcher in return, carrasco or Ross from the padres
Heh, I really hope that's not true, I want the curse of the goat to last forever. i do know that the Cubs have a VERY good team right now, I just like it when they lose.

I hate the Cubs and the Cardinals, so anything that hurts both of them, I'm all for. I believe this hurts both of them badly.
Kind of interesting that Luhnow has yet to trade with the Cardinals. Curious what we could get for Gomez.
Yea same here. I bet KC has 5 players better than Heyward offensively, but none of them are anywhere close to his salary....Defense and stolen bases sound sexy, but man he's never scored 100 runs or driven in a 100 RBIs...its crazy!
That's a lot of money for Heyward. I don't think he's any better than Springer. Which I guess makes it more difficult for Luhnow to lock in Springer with a long term contract.
He very well may not be... he's only 5 weeks older than George. But he made his debut at 20 vs. George at 24.
Listening the MLB on Sirius today there's serious rumors about sending Baez to the Ray's for McGee and Alex Cobb as they're desperate for some arms.
All Heyward has to do is average 3 WAR over the next 8 years (for a total of 24 WAR for the entire contract). Heyward average 6+ WAR the last two years and has a total of 31 WAR for his 6 year career. Heyward is only 26 years old and not even in prime. If Heyward stays heakthy, he could easily get better and overperform his contract.
He has two opt out clauses starting in 2018 and he turned down 200 million from the Nats and Cardinals. Dude really wanted to be a Cub. Theo has gotta be pissing the Cards off. Love it.
And this is one reason Astros should not pay stupid money for a free agent. Pay days are going to be looming for the young 'stros. Springer and Dallas may be looking at 200 million dollar contracts soon. And Correa is not too far off either. At some point the Astros are going to have to find a way to afford 3 $200 million contracts. That would practically mean 3 Guys making close to $75-100 million per year; and the other 22 players probably earning 120 million among them. The 30 million dollar payroll should be a distant memory.
I wouldn't want Heyward at that price, but there's no difference between choking up stupid money for FA's or "our guys".
Yikes, Carter's batting avg for balls in play was .244 last season. But the last 2 years it was .267 and .311 Valbuena was .235, last year with the cubs it was .295 and the year prior to that it was .233
