Who were the prior 3 who were offered and turned down the job? Saban flirtations happened the previous year - unfortunately Mack stayed instead.

I know we interviewed James Franklin and Jim Mora but offers were never confirmed. There is actually a very good article about how close Saban was to coming the same year we got Strong. Mack throwing a hissy fit after finding out threw a wrench into the whole thing.

So yet another OC has turned down an offer to UT. This just tells you what kind of shape the program is in and how nobody wants to coach with Strong.

This is coming down to money. We aren't going to guarantee 3 years which shows how much faith the admin has in Strong. We are a joke.

That article was about the previous year/offseason (Dec 2012) - the result was Mack stayed, not Strong being hired (2014).

That might have been the "hysteria" but apparently it was about a year too late. Saban had already signed a new deal when Mack resigned.

Why don't we just cancel all funding for academic programs and pool all that money into one big offer for Bill Belichick? It's the only thing that makes sense.....

What the UT administration is doing right now to Charlie is pure incompetence, unprofessionalism, and quite frankly really stupid. There are reports that Cumbie turned down the job because the administration wouldn't tell him if Charlie would be around after 2016, and now Gilbert apparently said no because they couldn't work out a contract for him.

It's atrocious. It is almost as if they are stringing charlie along, planning on throwing away another season and firing him after it. Give the man some support and a chance to succeed.

Right - but the hysteria was during the time between the end of the season and Mack actually resigning. There was a bunch of goofiness there where Mack went on a random out-of-town recruiting spree to avoid meeting the AD/etc. It was already known that he was leaving and that's when all the crazy talk about Saban was going on. Saban's extension also had some weirdness to it - for a while, it was reported that he agreed to it but never signed it. There were also reports that there was no buyout included anyway, so it was all sort of irrelevant.

Saban was seriously being discussed weeks after the extension, both here and in the media.

Right but he new deal was announced just weeks if not days before he resigned. Check out the article i posted if you get a minute. Pretty interesting to see how close we were.

I like Tony Franklin though. I wanted him instead of Watson a couple years back. I hope we just pay what he wants.

At this point, think it's best to clear house and start over. It's crystal clear now that the administration does not faith in Strong.

He's not going somewhere that has no OC and the HC's nuts on the dresser.

I heard Strong was on his way to a strip club in Lubbock where BJ Simmons currently works as a DJ/announcer.

    :p

The OU reject worked out well.

I actually didn't know he had any association with the Aggies. I just noticed his offense moved the ball well when I was looking around 2 years ago before Watson was hired.

No chance unless they make the move this year. Kelly is going to get booted from Philly and he'll pick up somewhere else immediately.

If Philly makes the playoffs, there's a good chance he gets at least another year.
