I don't blame him. He probably sees that next year is very likely Strong's last, so why would he have a pit stop in Austin if a new coach is going to bring in a new staff?
A good hire, in my opinion. Gilbert knows the state and is capable of instituting a spread offense with a strong running aspect to it.
Hoping Strong takes a long look at the JUCO route. All the QBs on the roster still need quite a bit of developing and not sure if Strong has that luxury right now. Hate to keep beating a dead horse but the lack of QB development under Watson will continue to hurt this program long after he is gone (hopefully soon).
When's the last time UT football got their 1st choice? I understand why the current OC job is a hard sell, but this is getting old. It's ESPN/Disney/Nike/Durant University of Texas. Y'all should have overlords across the board.
Not really. Strong went after Chad Morris and Tom Herman originally but Patterson wouldn't pay for Morris' buyout and Herman elected to stay at Ohio State. Strong also offered Joey McGuire a positional coaching job last season but he turned it down and we went with Jeff Traylor instead.
From what I've read, Gilbert did not call plays at Tulsa but did at EIU. Cumbie did not call plays at TCU either.
Yeah, I just found an article that said that about Gilbert. And Gilbert didn't call plays at his previous job either. Don't really get it. Not real excited.
According to who? Strong brought his 2 Louisville coordinators with him within days of being hired. None of this was ever reported at the time.
The lost years. Just a complete mess of a program. I'm not even looking forward to next year at all. I used to attend at least 3 games a year. I attended zero this year and will probably do the same next. Just like the Rockets, I just don't really give a **** any longer. Chip Kelly 2017!!!
It's wild how so many UT students have come and gone now without having a decent team. Colt's BCS injury was my junior year and, aside from a few one-of games, there's been nothing to be excited about or look forward to for almost 6 years.
