I am looking for a Music Player on my phone. Want to use it like a walkman [old music playing device that you carry and jog and run with that would attach to your hip] I am looking for something to download music and play in the order i would like Pandora and Spotify are ok but they only do kind of MUSIC LIKE ARTIST X Often for me .. . i like a bit more diversity and not soo many misses What would be the best Player for that? Google Play is awesome IMO They bought Songza which has some pretty good curated lists Also it integrates the music you already own much better As for music you download, it makes it available for offline usw top
Well if you want to listen to your own music then of course you have to upload it. But they have a big selection. But if you want free probably not the choice for you
Google music is free if you just upload and listen to your own library. That's why I use it, free backup up for up to 20,000 songs I believe. As a bonus they periodically give away free songs and albums. Granted it's stuff I already had on CD, but a good variety from Miles Davis to Michael Jackson.
Uploading is free to Google Play Music. You can download the GPM Download Manager and have it upload your current and any new stuff you add to the folders you specify. You can even play your uploaded music through your browser using the Google Play Music page. Been using it for a couple of years now. From what I've read, if you subscribe to YouTube Red, GPM Unlimited is included for free. Also, you get 10% off purchases in the Play Store.
+1 for Google Play Music. It's free if you just want to upload/play your own music, but the subscription is well worth it. Their curated playlists/radio stations tend to be awesome. And you get YouTube Red with it.
When you guys say upload your own music, do you mean to a cloud based server, or to your phone? Here I am still playing songs locally off my phone's built-in memory.
Google play music only let's you make a 1,000 song playlist still, right? I enjoyed it until I tried listening to my normal tunes on my car. I shuffle like 1,800 songs. It stopped me at 1,000.
I just bought into YouTube Red today as I'm sick of commercials and I want to be able to listen to stuff without having my phone open, like when using other apps. Is there really a 1000 song Playlist limit? I get Google Play for free now but I have a lot of Playlists on Spotify and I'd hate to lose it all. Can you make play lists like on Spotify without uploading your own music? Edit- Figured it out. Spotify and I had a great relationship, it's just time to see other people. Canceled.
On my Pandora, I have the 100 different channels designated with bands/genre's I like, then I have added two or three other bands to the 'add diversity' on each one. I listen to it on shuffle so it goes sort of everywhere around the genre's I love. It might go directly from Bob Wills to The Clash but I like the surprises, it keeps it fresh. I 'thumbs down' about 1 song in 20 and they go away forever. I do get bands I never heard of, but they are usually interesting. It's $99 a year I think. I pay $5 a month for the Sirius ap too, I listen to Tom Petty's Deep Tracks and Little Stevens Garage a lot. To me, the ap sounds a lot better than the compressed satellite signal through the car receiver. I pay for Spotify to listen to whole albums, They are certainly not 100% to have all the new albums I want to hear but pretty good. I just say "OK Google, have Spotify play the new Leon Bridges" and boom it's playing. That's about as science fiction to me as a jetpack, it's too cool. So that's like $25 a month, less than the cost of 2 CD's and I have everything I could possibly listen to.
So I went back to Spotify bump. Google Play is just OK. I hate the layout for downloaded albums and playlists and the stations just aren't as deep as Spotify. Plus they don't have the Club 6400 station. I need that. I'm still keeping Google Play as I get it for free with Youtube Red, but I missed Spotify too much. Also, Spotify is now using Google's cloud to store their music library. Could we see Google buy out Spotify soon?
