I wonder--just out of sheer speculation--if a Giancarlo trade could be made without losing Correa. I think I'd move just about every piece we have to have a 3-4 of Correa-Stanton for the next decade. Jesus that would be a huge trade.
The Cubs are going after him hard, especially after losing out on getting Price at SP whom they thought was a given to become a Cub.
McCullers, Altuve, Appel will likely be paid less over next three years and produce more than ace-level production by your calculation. Plus, they all will be under contract after Fernandez and keep helping your team. WAR is basically linear. In other words, teams generally don't pay more for WAR concentrated in one roster spot. Being an ace has no specific bonus in value other than aces being worth a lot of wins to begin with. Pick any public, somewhat accurate projection system (Not a full health system) you want if you don't think my numbers are reasonable. They will be close to my rounded numbers which are based on Steamer and Fangraphs depth charts. If you like, implement a more accurate standard aging curve of +0.25 WAR/year through age 27, constant WAR from 28 through 32, and -0.5 WAR after that. Use this http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/updating-prospect-valuations/ for Appel if needed. Even add in a depreciation value for WAR if you want. 5% seems usual, but you can use 8% if you really want. Get some arbitration predictions for Fernandez, Appel, and McCullers if you want to compare costs. Under no reasonable mathematical model does your trade seem reasonable. I suspect cost probably has less than 2 WAR value one or the other.
Well then. <blockquote class="twitter-tweet" lang="en"><p lang="en" dir="ltr">Jeff Luhnow on Jon Singleton at first base: "It’s at this point his job to lose but he’s got to keep it."</p>— Evan Drellich (@EvanDrellich) <a href="https://twitter.com/EvanDrellich/status/674364815301808128">December 8, 2015</a></blockquote> <script async src="//platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script> <blockquote class="twitter-tweet" lang="en"><p lang="en" dir="ltr">Luhnow said pitching remains the priority but a corner infielder is a possibility.</p>— Evan Drellich (@EvanDrellich) <a href="https://twitter.com/EvanDrellich/status/674364879495684096">December 8, 2015</a></blockquote> <script async src="//platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script>
Irrelevant to me in December (as are most statements about where someone slots come April). He would trade Singleton in a heartbeat if it got him someone worthwhile or was a necessary piece to include.
Braves, since Kiley McDaniel was hired, have made some brilliant moves. They are going to be a force in a few years.
Might as well trade Freddie & Teheran now! ________________ <blockquote class="twitter-tweet" lang="en"><p lang="en" dir="ltr">Hearing that <a href="https://twitter.com/hashtag/Marlins?src=hash">#Marlins</a> had deal working with D-Backs: Jose Fernandez for Corbin, Swanson and 3 others -- until Zona landed Shelby Miller.</p>— clarkspencer (@clarkspencer) <a href="https://twitter.com/clarkspencer/status/674410471882170373">December 9, 2015</a></blockquote> <script async src="//platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script>
Yeah I know, which is why I'm asking who we could replace Springer with. I don't really see anyone near, except maybe Fisher, but he won't be ready next year.
I dont give a **** about the future. we are contending now. we need to make some splash moves like the dbacks and other teams doing. this is pathetic
Oh no, the Astros didn't give away the biggest contract of all time! They didn't trade the farm for Fernandez, they didn't give up top prospects for Shelby! What the hell is Luhnow thinking?!
Are you new to baseball? You realize that signings/trades will continue for a while, right? Just so you're aware, baseball starts in March. (I assume you must be severely worried about spring training given how much you're flipping out.)
IDGAF if it starts tomorrow night. Luhnow is sitting on his ass watching teams get better and he not doing ****. Knew this idiot was overrated as a GM. He better make a huge move
I rarely use the ignore function, but sometimes it pretty easy deciding when somebody needs to be ignored.
Hahahaha what a troll. Our team is already better without any moves. A full season of Correa and a healthy Springer and Gomez already put us over 90 wins. Reed, Velasquez, Appel should be in the majors and contributing soon too if they're not packaged off in a huge trade. They'll make some moves, just be patient.
