Wow, that Chapman incident sounds bad. In regards to Kazmir, I've thought all along that bringing him back could be a really good idea if he comes with reduced starts.

Wonder what the cost is for Fernandez. Options, I guess, are: 1) Give up reed and a couple significant pieces, or 2) keep reed but give up the farm. I'd rather keep Reed and see if Appel, Moran, Velazquez, Bregman, and 1 of Daz/Kyle would work. Gotta give up to get...and Jose is a stud
@BNightengale: The #Cubs get Shelby Miller from #Braves for Javy Baez per @GDubCub Nightengale is the MLB Columnist for USA Today
I realize those are huge trades. I don't even know if I would do that. I'm just guessing that's how high Fernandez' asking price is.
Also, that report is from the Chicago Suns-Times Cubs beat reporter. Looks legit. Great deal for the Cubs IMO.
Apologie...Nightengale, Keith law, and the Cubs beat reporter (who reported it) just debunked it. No deal.
I wouldn't give up anything like that package for Fernandez. Young pitching is just too volatile, with the injury risk. He's already had Tommy John and missed most of the past 2 seasons.
$6M/year! The market for relievers is officially out of control if Chad Qualls is getting $6M/year. Note that Qualls has made about $20M over the course of his career. He'll be improving his career earnings by over 50% at ages 38-39. Unbelievable.
$6M total, so only $3M/year I'm not overly surprised. Qualls posted good peripherals, which suggest he could bounce back. His ground ball tendencies would also be attractive to Colorado.
