Much like White House security, you are damned if you do and damned if you don't. You are rational if you let them storm the field to prevent the stadium crush, but if someone gets hurt on the field or a player goes down, then you are the idiots who let them rush the field. I can't say that I have dog in the fight, but I understand what security is asked to do which is detain, because you just don't know what the intention is, and I understand letting the storm go to. There's common sense on both sides of this type of security decision. However, the policy would have be a given, which is take down someone heading toward the field. I don't think they could have an exception, like if we win a game, or if there is a big crowd, let them run. It's sort of all or nothing I would think. And legally nothing would be a big problem as then why are they there. I think this security guy is going to look like a buffoon for sure, it's all bad on his side, but I wouldn't say that myself, he was doing what he is asked to do especially in todays day and age.
I didn't rush because I'm too old for that, but yes. "Act like you've been there before" doesn't apply here because well, we've never been here.
Both UH and CSC have issued press releases. UH - UH Police investigating and UH may terminate CSC for cause. CSC - Trains staff and is not responsible for rogue actions.
“After viewing initial videos of today's postgame activity, I am extremely disappointed and angered with the actions taken by individuals employed by our security contractor CSC. We are working with the University of Houston police to review today's activities and will take swift and appropriate action including the termination of our current contract with CSC and any legal action deemed necessary.” Houston Vice President for Athletics Hunter Yurachek said in a statement released to USA TODAY Sports Saturday night.. http://www.usatoday.com/story/sport...ican-athletic-conference-title-game/76860474/
This seriously makes my blood boil. At this point multiple people are already rushing the field. What's tackling/punching random people going to accomplish? Then the way the CSC employee who punched that guy stands there as if he accomplished something. I would of seriously hopped down and and done something if I were in the stands and I was witnessing that in real time.
This is why we need open carry at stadiums. Maybe security would think twice about pummeling students.
They (the fans) handled it pretty well though, I'm not sure I'd have been that cool about someone doing that to me. It's good that a large group didn't just beat the crap out of the security.
One thing I noticed though is that the guy getting popped in the red shoes was in the other video too... where two guys tried to hold him back from rushing the field relatively peacefully. So it seems like he kept pushing the envelope.
Maybe when an unranked team defeats a highly ranked team as a huge underdog, or a national championship, or an unlikely comeback. But a conference championship? Meh. If security is contracted to prevent fans from rushing the field, but they cannot physically subdue hundreds of fans from doing it, there's no point in having security. Then more fans will continue to rush the field and chaos can ensue. Players and coaches, especially from an opposing team, could potentially be at harm from an unruly mob if someone decides they can get a free shot in the chaos or someone gets trampled. Fans shouldn't be rushing the field for everyone's safety.
There will be charges pressed against multiple CSC staffers and that contract is absolutely terminated.
Who the hell spears a fan celebrating for what is likely minimum wage. You'd have to pay me wayyyyy more than that to actually give a **** and get physical. Good restraint by the kid to get embarrassed in front of thousands of of people and not throw punches.
They are contracted to prevent fans from rushing or getting to the field during the game. I might be wrong but wasn't this at the end of the game? Also, security(CSC) work the floor of EVERY college basketball game yet they don't go mental when fans rush the floor after major regular season victories by home teams. Man, you'd be surprised. For you they'd have to pay you way more in order to get physical but for a bunch of the a-holes, dbags and jerks they have working some of those gigs, you'd have to pay them way more in order NOT to get physical and to act sanely.
A&M and UT seem to have state troopers out there, though probably not in those high numbers. A&M probably supplements them with the corps, but in any case that possibly deters people from going on to the field. Once again plastered teenysomethings have to learn that a commuter school nestled between housing projects and a freeway underpass is not Adams College. Droppin' them Third Ward B's on 'em!
When a fan purchases a ticket to a game, he/she usually is not given the privilege of walking onto the field, unless they a have field access pass. This security guard is just doing his job albeit a little too enthusiastically.
