Then why are you talking about knives? Who cares about knives. Get rid of these stupid guns. People don't need semi-automatic weapons to defend themselves. Guns for hunting and defending against a home intruder - fine. But keep them out of the hands of crazy people. No one should own something that can kill 5 or more people in a few seconds.
Pointing out that the target of most gun control measures is foolish, similar to your statement about "No one should own something that can kill 5 or more people in a few seconds". You can easily do so with a revolver. You can easily do so with household chemicals that react explosively. You can easily do so with gasoline. I get that your response is out of ignorance and fear, which is why people like you really shouldn't be involved in this kind of conversation. Let the people who know what they are talking about discuss this.
Any idiot knows that it's much much harder to kill 5 people with a knife or to make a bomb or to do so with gasoline VERSUS a semi-automatic hand-gun. Your argument defies intelligence.

LOL so you are seriously calling for a ban of semi-automatic handguns? Yeah, that's not a total non-starter. Keep up the struggle. The problem here is that your stance isn't one that is to be taken seriously and you don't seem to realize it.
Cars are certainly dangerous pieces of equipment. It's why we strongly regulate their use, track their ownership and sales, constantly refine safety requirements, and require annual inspections to be allowed to use them. Would you be OK with a similar system for guns? How would you go about fixing people's mental health? Or solving the root cause of terror? Why have any safety regulations of anything in your world? Bernie Madoff only was successful at his scam because of people's greed and stupidity. Why make pyramid schemes illegal instead of solving the root causes? No need to have workplace safety at all - the root cause is really just a business' lack of concern for people. Solve that instead, right?
The difference being that the right to own or operate a car is not constitutionally guaranteed and the right to keep and bear arms is. Now that said, I do support some regulations related to the purchase of firearms, but you simply can't treat something that is a guaranteed right the same as you treat a privilege.
On this topic, I would be considered someone from the very far left in the USA. I think you guys are nuts when it comes to guns. I agree with all of Bernie Sanders' proposals. On this one topic, I probably agree with Sam Fisher.
More specifically, an annual inspection and regulation would be no different than if you had to pass a test proving knowledge of the candidates and their stances and pay a tax to vote. Again, you just can't treat rights like you would a privilege. You can still vote if you are completely ignorant to what is on the ballot or who you'd be voting for, you can buy a gun even if you don't know how to use it. That's just how rights go....and it's why there are so few actual rights.
It's insane to not ban them. I will settle for limits - tighter controls and regulations - eliminate all loopholes. Ensure a process that getting them will require enough time to deter most criminals and unstable. Increase background checks. 80% of Americans support increased gun control. I don't think you realize that most people are not happy with the current laws.
Fair enough, I accept that you are an extremist on the topic, as such further conversation isn't really going to be productive.
80% of voters in the poll are extremist. to me the "extremists" are the ones who fight against allowing people on terrorist watch lists to buy guns and do not do not allow the CDC to even study the issue of gun violence. people who push for allowing guns in college classrooms, despite the overwhelming majority of students and faculty being opposed to it (local control, anyone?). sensible people are starting to see the NRA and their republican puppets for what they are.
There's no way that 80% of Americans are for banning semi-automatic handguns. That's an outright extremist position. Now you might be an extremist as well on the issue but it doesn't change anything. The vast majority of the US would laugh at you for even bringing up the idea of banning all semi-automatic weapons.
Its a matter of not being dependent on someone else (a stranger who is 5 -10 minutes away) to protect your family or property. The laws gun control supporters want make a person feel helpless.
It is funny with as many anti-cop threads we have here that so many people want to be entirely dependent on cops for their defense. If it means taking civil liberties away from people, they trust cops 100%, in every other thread cops are nothing but racist murderers preying on the public.

Yes. I can build/buy/import any car I want without restriction/registration. Operate it on private property without registration as high of horsepower as I want, carry to any racetrack I want and operate at any speed I want. I can have 100 cars in any configuration in my backyard. The licenses to drive a car on public roads is acquired by a test done at 16 years of age and no requirements to retest. The regulation of drivers in this country is a joke and thankfully the auto industry is tired of being blamed and regulated for dumb drivers that government failed to instruct, test or restrict. Now they are eliminating drivers. If you feel like regulating guns like cars I would start making mufflers on my lathe for guns tonight.
