Anything is possible..... Herman could drop dead...etc. However it is VERY unlikely that Herman would leave after privately telling donors that he was staying last week (I posted on it then) and then coming public that he is indeed staying. It would be a PR disaster and undermine his credibility to a serious degree. Rest assured he has already weighed possible jobs and interest (USC/UT/SC/UGA) on both ends. What Saban said to the donors is that he cannot promise he will be with UH after next season, he will consider offers after next season. However, he said it would take a special top job to consider it. He also said part of the reason he doesn't want to go anywhere is because he feels very strongly about his recruiting class. So gone in 2017? Sure it is possible, but 2016? Very, very unlikely.
That's good info. Thanks. I'm assuming you mean Herman here. You're probably right about it needing to be a special top job. Not really sure how the USC job opening really worked, but for a Cali kid, i gotta think that's pretty top. What do you think a special, top job is? Should we be rooting for UT and LSU to play well next year?
Wow. Brien Straw's article and twitter feed are a train wreck. No credibility whatsoever. Dude was citing a twitter user with 200 followers and that went from a "Texas Insider" to "UGA Insider" within the past few weeks. What a jackass. Do a little research, "B Straw." Can't even take 610 seriously after this. http://houston.cbslocal.com/2015/11/29/one-and-done-for-herman-at-uh/
I've set a reminder for 9:58 because I'll probably get sidetracked at some point in the next 10 minutes.
Like someone said a few pages back, Herman is playing this perfectly. There's really no reason to jump ship this early. You haven't even had a chance to get your recruits in there, and I understand he has a good class coming in next year. His name is all over the place, which can only help him AND UH down the road. Besides, you don't want to get a reputation as a job-hopping douchebag like a Todd Graham or Dennis Franchione.
all i had to do was accept since im a season ticket holder, but from what im hearing on coogfans, the ticketmaster process is freaking insane. they shut down the part where you can select a seat so you have to pick best seat available. no way you get a seat by 11 am at this rate.
I'm so happy that people are fighting for tickets right now. TDECU needs to be packed every game... what a long way we've come from the Rob. I'm in section 232 if anyone wants to come say hi! I'll probably have a flask on hand
Agreed. Another successful year at UH and Herman will have his choice of any job in 2017. Long ways away but there are scenarios where Texas, A&M, and/or LSU could open up.
Weird. I got to pick what section and seat I wanted. I picked a bad year to not get season tickets. I should probably renew next year.
The ESPN app just sent me an update: "Houston: On Champ Drive podcast, the crew says Tom Herman made a "shrewd" decision to stay" http://espn.go.com/espnradio/play?id=14266551 Link for anyone interested. I haven't listened because I personally don't care about speculation and others' opinions because that has nothing to do with how the team is going to perform.
Herm knows with that great 2016 class, Ward coming back and hopefully Ayers he can win the AAC again next year and play in a big time bowl game. Just adding on to his resume
I would think our floor next year is 8-5. The ceiling is 14-0. It will be difficult to repeat the success of this season however. On one hand, we are relying almost exclusively on one player to move the ball. On the other hand, he's that good. I'd say if we have basically the same schedule there's no reason to think we can't run the table in the American. Most of the teams we played had no QB. They were terrible. Yet u need some luck to do it. Herman's resume is set in stone if we get NY6. He's got street cred for a while with that and the OSU championship. So no worries on his part. He can wait. And next year shouldn't hurt him any with a floor of 8-5, but again, will be hard to repeat what happened this year. He'll be at his peak right now. The only stone better than this would be the national championship.
Sooners will be so tough. But if we can get that one, can't imagine having any more momentum going into the year.
I'm guessing the one player you're referring to is Greg Ward? I think he'll have a lot of help next year. We'll still have a strong running game, even if we are losing Farrow. We have four or five good running backs who will battle it out for the starting spot, including transfer Duke Catalon who I am really excited about. I think the running back spot can be plug-and-play with any of our good athletes, as evidenced by plugging in Brandon Wilson and having him go off, as long as our o-line plays well and dominates the line of scrimmage. We'll also have Ayers and Allen returning and add Rashaad Samples to the mix. Defense is where I'm more worries about. We'll be losing a lot of impact players like William Jackson, Adrian McDonald, Elandon Roberts, and Trevon Stewart. A lot of turnover in our secondary. I don't think we'll have issues scoring the ball next year, but we might have issues stopping other teams from scoring. Hopefully we can keep Orlando and have him work some more magic.
