going back in time would rely on some physical law we are yet to uncover

going forward in time (in some capacity) is physically possible as a matter of relativity.

That ^ would just make India, China, Japan, and other countries East of us to see the sun rise before we do on the Western hemisphere. It wouldn't "reverse" time. :p
I agree with this, so it's still not possible.
Time "runs" and never stops. You could not possibly "skip" ahead of time. Even if it is physically possible with relativity, you're still spending time to get to a point in the future. It is still NOT possible now.

Google 'closed timelike curves' and 'frame dragging'.

correct me if I am wrong, but the concept of a closed timelike curve is basically a wormhole. which, while mathematically possible, would require a form of matter which has not been discovered...
also, the problem with most of these theories is that any object with mass falls outside of the parameters for time travel.

started reading up on frame dragging, but it was way above my head for a lunch break...
I will check it out after work. Thanks for the lead, it looks interesting.

so when we see a supernova from light years away we're looking at the past techincally right?

anyway, i know its possible because some dude on this site chose some silly album name from 2009 when he joined this site in 1996:)

It actually HAS been discovered. Way back in 2194.

    Where have you been?

and if we were to discover intelligent life on some planet light years away, that civilization has probably blown itself into oblivion by now

Of course it's possible, you just need to find somebody's who'll believe you when you do it!

You said we'd need a new theory. I'm just saying the theory is there.

The problem is the engineering not theory. I'd guess that problem is so immense as to be indistinguishable from impossible for human beings.

When we look at anything, we're seeing it as it looked in the past simply because of the time it took light to hit our eyes., but we're still in the present. We haven't traveled anywhere.

My dream very clear and so realistic... I was asking people why the ozone layer was so depleted. They said it was due to time and the unzipping of it. Where have I been. I said what. They said the solution was always right above our heads. Cold and Hot water cubed. They showed me a clock. Chemistry. It was simple they said. I woke up.

Make of that what you will. I can only tell you that was the dream and that time travel was happening.
