Top 20 player. I wish every player was as committed to the game and their team as Kobe Bryant.

First Take is probably going to take the day off out of respect for this announcement. How dare Jim Buss force the Mamba to retire prematurely.

He'll be back for the 2017 playoffs. He just needs to lay low, so the Lakers can lure some star free agents this Summer.

    :)

Huh? Can't even not hate for one day jeez.
If he wanted to draw attention, he would've done this prior to the start of the season so fans and players in every city would applaud him, etc before each game.
It seems the guy just came to the realization officially after the stinker of a start to the season he's had.

If you've got nothing nice to say then you don't really have to say anything.

Had to rep, that was brilliant lol.

Trying to emulate Jordan one last time.... or not.

In about 10 years, Kobe gonna launch his own sneakerline and get fat and happy smoking cigars and playing golf.

Jordan was pretentious, but a singular basketball talent. Kobe's pretentiousness is plagiarism, and he wasn't remotely the player that Jordan was. Kobe was a tremendously talented scorer, but he was extremely overrated overall because his game most resembled Jordan's to a basketball audience hungry for a new Jordan.

Jordan's real successor was LeBron James, even though their games were completely different. Kobe resembled Jordan, but wasn't even in his neighborhood of all-around brilliance.
