    Some of these pastors rather openly charge money to endorse, so this is not surprising.

    They view it as sort of like being paid to endorse any other product.

    Trump made it pretty clear in the first debate how money works in business and politics.

    Ok, so several of these pastors apparently won't endorse Trump on Monday.

    In any case, The New York Times has published a story saying that 100 black pastors are going to endorse him on Monday. Now several say they will not endorse him. How many will? Will any of them? Did the New York Times completely blow the story?

    Well, we will see on Monday. However, the New York Times is hardly a bastion of partisan conservative journalism, so why would they publish this story if there was not something to it?

    Because they are reporting what the Trump campaign told them. The problem is that the Trump campaign often just lies or makes things up.

    No, that isn't right, because as you can see for yourself in the NY Times story, they interviewed and quoted some of the pastors who are supportive of Trump for the story. Read the story and see for yourself.

    They had a quote from one pastor - the pastor who organized the event and clearly associated with Trump. This was an article built off of a press release - nothing more - it's pretty obvious this section of the times is just covering the campaigns and much of it is passing on info from the various campaigns.

    No - they specifically reported that they got their information from the campaign. I think media regularly reports on events given to them by campaigns - since campaigns normally don't lie about things like getting endorsements, I doubt it's SOP to investigate every announcement made by them. The problem is that the Trump campaign is not your normal campaign, and yeah, it's likely that the NYT screwed up by choosing to believe them.

    Some = one. Perhaps you're the one that needs to re-read the story?

    Supposedly the black Pastors were upset that "The Donald" referred to them as Toby and had them hold his coat and gloves.

    First of all, since we have conflicting reports on this now, it only seems appropriate to wait until tomorrow to see what actually happens before jumping to any final conclusions. I really do not understand what the collectivist fetish of liberals is for prematurely ejaculating in this sort of way.

    Also, even if it turns out that none of these pastors either formally endorse Donald Trump, or offer him some degree of support as a group either for him as a candidate, or for certain policy platforms that he is advocating (which would still be quite significant), it will still be only appropriate to leave the title of this thread unaltered as yet another reminder of how shoddy the journalism and how untrustworthy the reporting of the New York Times has become.
