Techs defense isn't there. Neither is UT's. Warren has looked amazing. Don't know why UT went long on 4th down.
That two play sequence was excruciating to watch. Stupid play call by UT followed by a great play call by Kingsbury.
That play made no sense as we were running all over Tech. Also, on the previous play, I think Swoopes should've sold the run to draw the LB and pass it to Warren before crossing the LOS. Instead, he ran straight into the LB for a minimal gain. Games like this don't really bother me, though. It was exciting, and we saw flashes of brilliance with Strong's young recruits. This season has been a huge enigma, though. You have similar games like Heard against Cal. Signature win against OU. Then this team throws up stinkers against TCU and Iowa State. It's too up and down, and hard to really evaluate whether it's the players or the coach. Even though we aren't bowling, I think Strong has done enough to get another year, but next year has to be a winning season.
Think Strong will get another year, but honestly don't see what he has done to deserve it other than us committing to the rebuild. Agreed that this season has been an enigma but saw way too much undisciplined, uninspired, and generally unprepared football, and that falls directly on him IMO.
If they can get a better guy, they will get a better guy. Strong has 1 more year, though. Nothing short of NFL or the pipedream of Saban....
Hope you're right because Chip Kelly is a better guy IMO and could be available. Hate the idea of canning a coach after 2 years but this is all about getting the best coach available. If Philly cans him or Chip shows interest, you do everything you can to make him the next HC at Texas.
One of the top defensive tackle recruits in Texas, Jordan Elliott, chose Michigan today. Apparently UT sites thought he was a silent commit to UT. We really need some good d-line players. In general, having someone like Elliott slip through our hands when he wanted to go to UT is a really bad sign for this recruiting cycle.
UT has the facilities, but players want to go somewhere to win, it is a dangerous cylce that UT is going through, it might not be a quick turnaround unless they get the right coach. DD
It's really sad to look at the top players in Texas and not see any that are leaning toward UT in the top 10. http://247sports.com/Season/2016-Fo...Rankings?InstitutionGroup=HighSchool&State=TX
it's not a quick turnaround ever when your program is crap. Charlie Strong, urban Meyer, Jim Harbaugh - whoever. None of them would have made a difference when the foundation of the program was so obviously rotten to the core.
UT need try very hard to get a real coach to turn this thing around. Is the LSU coach going to be fired? He may be a choice.
There were definitely some underlying issues with the program but tough to say a coach like Urban and Harbaugh wouldn't have made a difference. I think Strong bringing in a Herman caliber OC like Urban did would have done wonders alone. We know that Strong went after Herman and Chad Morris but settling with Watson and retaining him single handedly set the program back 2-3 years IMO. Going into year 3, we have absolutely zero identity on offense and haven't seen any improvement at QB. This is on Strong.
This just about sums it up. They're talking about hiring the, what, 3rd/4th offensive coordinator in 3 years? Why would any QB/RB/WR recruit commit to that?
