Yeah because his teammate has severely underperformed this year...Don't really think when Bev posted that Tweet in July he could have known that Lawson would be this dreadful.
Terry and Beverley have been just as bad in all honesty. Our PG spot is in shambles with James Harden. Get him off the ball...
Bev is shooting 30% from 3 and his defense has been atrocious, every bit as bad as Terry's defense. Either we get Lawson functioning as a true point guard and helping us or we have to go get a point guard. We might as well keep running McDaniels out there to play the point defensively and spot-up off Harden offensively. He only shoots about half the 3's they shoot anyways and we all know he's twice the finisher they are.
This, Terry and Beverley have no room to talk, they've been sucking ass all season and so has the rest of the bench
Terry and Bev play better than we do, yet we talk 24/7. But you won't let them talk? Lawson is supposed to be the #1 PG. He's supposed to play better than Terry and Bev, not the same.
Harden doesn't have the supporting cast to get as open as others and isn't as gifted a pure shooter as a certain someone you seem to be referring to. Hmmm did we only play 1 game in the playoffs? what about the games leading up to that game 6 and the games after. Harden wasn't the problem defensively against MEM. Did he miss rotations, sure - as did everyone else. But he played with effort and energy, got steals, blocked shots and closed out Where are some of you getting the idea that Harden doesn't wanna pass to Howard or that Harden throws bad passes on purpose or that he was mad at Dwight for missing time. Some of you guys seem to read comments on here and run with it as if it were fact.
The rockets need a ball handler like Isiash Thomas. If harden can't learn how to play off the ball or simply doesn't want to then we need a ball handler who can make buckets.
This. Harden is our primary ball handler and playmaker. What I always wanted was someone else who could make plays without dominating the ball - for their self and for others (sadly, CP used to own this role). Harden's job is to be the main guy. I just wanted someone who could score, move the ball, and make the right moves without the ball. Thornton started off great. He was looking to be that guy, but I should have known that he's a hot and cold kinda player. This news is discerning. The players seem complacent and they lack the fire and desire to prove themselves. I think that's mostly what they mean about "not the same team". I hope it's not about Ty, because I drafted him in fantasy
Dispute something specifically or punk out like Harden. I gave Harden credit for his playoff improvement. Wouldn't say he balled out though. Someone else introduced the "missing time" factor. But I've watched games this season and seen Harden throw alley-oop passes like he had no intention of making the play. Bullet-esk passes at the rim where Dwight has no chance. And that's IF Harden even passes to him in the first place. Plus Harden steals rebounds from Dwight. Harden is trippin in many ways, but especially regarding Dwight. Howard is no angel though.. practicing half-court hooks when he can't consistently make a 6' hook or freethrow. Rockets have their problems, but Harden might be the biggest.
So, McHale started Lawson. Terry didn't like that a drunken lawless guy got the nod. Harden was on board and no way he would give up being a ball dominate guard. First few games proved they were right. McHale yelled at Harden's poor play. Harden felt misunderstood and being singled out in private when the only thing that changed from last year was the addition of Lawson. He took the criticism very personally. After a few more session of McHale trying to coach Harden for the first time in years, Harden had enough and got him fired. Soon after, new coach was smart enough to stick Lawson to the end of the bench, put Terry in the starting lineup and Harden suddenly played much more inspired basketball. The rest of the team isn't too interested in playing and hated being there.
Remember this? Kyle Lowry regrets how he handled time with Houston Rockets http://nba.nbcsports.com/2014/03/20/kyle-lowry-regrets-how-he-handled-time-with-houston-rockets/ I think McHale can be pretty direct. Maybe it's hard to hear sometimes.
So last night Ty played 3 mins. Still a terrible game. So are we suggesting that Ty has infected the chemistry of the team?
Just saw this and after thinking about it for a few minutes, my answer would be a very solid defensive 4 that can shoot a corner 3. Paul Millsap would do nicely. Heck, Donuts would be a big improvement. Maybe we'll see him this season. At this rate, it'll be too late for him or anyone else to have a significant impact if we continue to play this poorly until the break.
Well, it's at least two-parted, and probably synergistic. 1) If he's not trying enough on the floor, that's bad in itself. 2) He also displaces someone else's minutes, and whatever they normally bring to the game is missing. Bev, for example, never lacked spirit, at least. Mostly Lawson would displace Bev, and you lose Bev's aggression and spirit. The point is, if a guy plays badly, it has a network of consequences, I do think.
Do you think we would have won if Lawson had not played a single minute?? Right now, Lawson is the lightning rod. Anything to keep from dealing with the real problems, you know. Lawson for sure hasn't helped any at all. But the truth of the matter is we have nobody else. We have the same issue with ball-handling/playmaking that we have with our defensive bigs. On this roster we only have 2 guys that can handle and distribute. Harden and Lawson. And we've only got 2 bigs that can defend bigs and rebound effectively. If something happens to either Harden or Lawson we're hit and sunk because we don't have any other playmakers. And right now obviously something has happened to Lawson. Same thing up front. We've only got two legit bigs playing right now and one of them is basically a rookie. When Dwight goes out...we basically don't have a chance. Because we ain't got nobody else. We're 4-6 with Dwight and 1-4 without him.
Capela holds his own with Dwight out to the best of his ability.. He blocks and cuts to the rim.. Yes we have a better record with Dwight but are still losing badly
The point is, Lawson was meant to play 36 minutes, hopefully providing 9 assists or so, at least resemble his former self. That did not materialize in the very short span during which all this stuff has gone down. I think you would agree with that. But Lawson is indeed one of the real problems. Nobody expected this role for him.
