You know why Golden State is so good? They have two way players instead of just one side of the ball. The Rockets can't score they can't win. DD
I have more than an opinion. I have this: Facts about Rockets Coaches Jeff Van Gundy: 347 games, total win %54, reached first round Rick Adelman: 347 games, total win %58, reached second round Kevin McHale: 352 games, total win %59, reached WCF
Harlan was never complimentary of Harden, and you can hear it in his broadcasts, he was taking sots at harden last year and he's a friend of McHale like most in the media. THe media refuses to mention the incompetence of McHales coaching but tries to give him the most credit for the WCF appearance last year.
I would predict a coaching change before the All Star Break. "Changes will continue to be made until the team begins to win". The Rockets need a coach that will make the players accountable for their performance. Definitely need a defensive minded coach. If Harden only wants to make offensive plays involving Capela and ignores Howard, then Harden doesn't give a flip about the Rockets as a team. Well, that doesn't need to be spelled out, that is obvious.
I think the best time for a coaching change is just prior to the ASB. After the break, we have 2 relatively easy opponents before a big matchup with the SAS, and the new coach would have over a week to implement changes. Perhaps, hopefully, that's Morey's target. TBH, I was shocked that McHale was fired this early. Sure changes are/were needed, but if you aren't really willing to implement a true coaching change, then just wait. It has served little to no purpose.
People still blame the role players, les, DM, coach when this system is geared for one person to succeed. Weather that person succeeds or not; the rest of the team will ultimately fail. No plays are run for other players. Most of their shots are forced because no plays are run for them. The system is flawed. It's no wonder no one else can thrive in this system.
This seasons ineptitude is contagious for everyone. Even Clutch is falling victim to it... 14 pages later and still no additional comments/thoughts from the interview :grin: Happy thanksgiving everyone.
The records speak otherwise. We should always be so fortunate as to have a "crappy coach" that takes a team without two starters to the WCF. I doubt very seriously we will see another, in the history of this franchise. It was a knee jerk reaction to fire McHale...fueled by internet forums. Ty should have been cut first...still should be for his terrible play. McHale had a much better chance of turning this around than an inexperienced coach. Now the franchise is in deep trouble....with terrible options.
McHale is lucky to coach Harden and Howard. Remember McHale's record with the Timberwolves in 08-09? He was 20-43. Adelman did more with less. McHale underachieved in 2013-2014 and had a miraculous comeback against the Clippers despite underachieving against them early in that series. McHale is average. Adelman was good.
You clearly don't watch the games or don't understand what you are watching. There are designed plays for the role players.
They drafted very well during the seasons where they were bottom ten. But GS plays selflessly and their superstar knows how to lead.
Yeah. I'm not for sure McHale was so incompetent. He did take this team to the WC Finals. He wasn't responsible for the non re-signing of Smoove, who by all reports loved the guy. And it's becoming very evident, more so by the hour now, that Harden wasn't open to corrective coaching. So, what's a coach to do in that situation. Well, he's got to coach the dickens out of everybody else around Harden. Which McHale did. Including taming Smoove for several months and getting the best team performances out of Smoove that Smoove has had in his entire career. I've never been a big fan of McHale as a coach. I was disappointed when Morey originally hired him. But he overachieved with this bunch last year working through issues of non-responsibility and immaturity coming from Harden and he instilled the confidence in these guys to come back against the Clippers and put them down. And now we're hiring Navy Seals to do what McHale did for these guys last season. #Pursuit? How about #ItsOnHarden instead?
Yeah, people just don't realize how incompetent McHale was during his Minnesota days. It's extremely naive to assume that just because we got to WCF last year, it was 'because' of McHale's coaching, when in reality it was 'despite' having him as our coach.
