The problem with morey is that he fails to acknowledge the problems and puts some mythical bandaid over it. I guarantee you his plan to fix this will be to try and pitch durant to come here. Is durant a hell of a player...hell yes! Why the **** would he come here though...yet Morey won't ever realize that or doesn't want to.
Some of you guys crack me up. I mean it's okay to appreciate those teams but to glorify them as if it was great and better than what we have.... I don't think so. If your old like myself last year was the most fun I'd had watching a rockets team in almost 20 years. We had a true mvp season from one of our own. Won the division and reached the WCF...... How is that not better than the 9th seed? Cmon everyone is frustrated with the season but don't be that guy. I don't think anyone didn't get tired picking 14th in the draft 3 years in a row. That sucked!!!!
FACT: We don't know what the problem is. We can guess. We can speculate. But, we do not know what the problem is. It's really weird, because it seems like everything has fallen to pieces at the same time. Bad shooting, bad movement, bad defense, bad everything. Even if you try to blame one person or one thing, it doesn't make sense that suddenly everyone would start missing shots. It's just really weird. I'm not going to blame Morey or the coaches. This is the same GM, and these are the same coaches that built a very good team over the past few years. Could it be that we are unlucky to have multiple players go into a rapid decline all at once. All players lose it at some point. Some of our struggling players are getting old, but others are fairly young. It's just really weird. Could a feud between Harden and Howard be the problem? That doesn't explain other players missing wide open shots. It's all just really weird. I wonder if Morey and the coaches know what the problem is. Or are they as confused and bewildered as all of us?
Anyone that blames Morey is too ignorant to even respond to. Including the owner. All Morey has done is build rosters with top tier "superstars" that matchup talent wise with all the top tier teams and surround them with quality talent that matches up with any other teams role players. The only thing he could have done better is find the right coach. Other that there is NOTHING to complain about.
The sad thing is, firing MOrey will not make our team better. I think this team has blossomed already last year and was not enough to get to the finals. it's break time.
Morey as the GM who deals and brings in/out players within the salary cap? I like that guy. My question is...Is he responsible for this shoot all 3's offense and ISO with Harden only? If so then that responsibility needs to be removed from Morey.
I think people overemphasize Morey's allegiance to a 3's and layups approach. Morey's allegiance is to analytics, which strongly and CORRECTLY note that 3's, layups, FTs and efficient offense wins game. The thing about efficient offense is that as far as I know, the one thing that correlates the most with efficient offense are OPEN SHOTS... anywhere on the court. Guess what? The Rockets offense gets A LOT of open shots. If Morey is to be faulted, it's not for his analytics driven offensive philosophy. It's for (1) failing to recognize the importance of defense - perhaps the fact that defense just can't be measured as well still played into this analytically, (2) failing to recognize the importance of leadership and chemistry, (3) coaching - McHale was ok, JB seems really strange, etc., (4) offensively not getting players that are the best fits for that analytics system. If there is one thing I can point to from what I'm seeing on the court its bball IQ. It's just not there. Sure, it's a nebulous, non-measurable thing... but its also obvious. The players lack it. The coaching staff lacks it. And it flows through to every aspect of the game. They make poor decisions which lead to turnovers, wide open layups for the other team. Coaching makes strange rotation decisions. They foul players in the strangest ways, etc. Clearly, DM didn't focus on that enough.
People are getting too worked up with Morey's 3 pointer philosophy. The problem is not the quantity of 3's, but the quality. Steph Curry is getting praised for shooting a historic rate of 3's. Yes, Curry is a far superior shooter to anyone we have on our roster. But there is a reason he, and many of his teammates shoot a much better 3% than we do. Curry, along with his teammates, gets much, MUCH better looks than anyone else on our roster. There is a difference between rushing a corner 3 when the defender is closing out on you and getting a legitimate open look off of a screen. Morey is 100% right in his 3 pointer philosophy, but we need our coach to set up a better system that gets our guys open.
No, defense wins games and that is why the Spurs are always in the hunt for a championship. People forget the Warriors played awesome D last year. Our 2 highest earning players are not committed on that end of the floor... It's like they are battling for who's the Big Dog!
This is something Calvin Murphy pointed out after the Denver loss. The last play of the game, they dumped the ball to Dwight 23 feet away from the basket... and no one immediately came to get the ball or create a passing lane for him. The Rockets have no recognition of basketball 101 type things.
I agree! Him and J.B. Bickerstaff should be fired immediately! The Rockets have 15 spots on the roster, and only 14 are filled. The Rockets needed help at the 4 spot and a shooter from the start of the season. For the life of me, it seems at least one them could have been filled by Boozer or Reggie Evans
Morey just overlooked something very important. It happens but if he does not fix this mistake it will be the end of his career as a basketball gm. There is nothing wrong with a bit of continuity like Golden State did, however Golden State overhauled their coaching staff. It was obvious to Golden State that Marc Jackson was not getting them to the promiseland. I feel like this is the same situation in Houston right now. Mchale and the whole coaching staff needed to go. Why Morey decided to stick with Bickerstaff jist baffles me. We have the talent. We just have no captain to steer the ship and point all the talent in the right direction. Morey go to Thibs' house now.
