Good luck to JB. But promoting him is just a half arsed measure by Les. Many wanted McHale gone and people got their wish. But what people really wanted is an improvement by getting a 1st class experienced coach - and that we don't have. Nothing against JB, but he's been thrown in the deep end and I don't see our problems being fixed. The real problem is Les backed himself into a corner by stating that JB has the job until the end of the season. He should NEVER have committed to that. Give JB a chance - SURE! But actively look for someone else. If JB pans out and turns things around, keep him in place. But if things don't improve, have someone else (ie Thibs, JVG or whomever) ready to go.
I possibly think the Rockets should be patient, wait to see what happens with Luke Walton (possible Phil Jackson 2.0), and if Steve Kerr possibly comes back, possibly try and hire Luke Walton.
I've been able to find only two instances of a similar early NBA coach firing...and neither ended well. Maybe there are others. The presumption that McHale was the only problem might be an example of dumb ass thought.
So too might be the thought that you can fire a coach and bring in a tier one coach less than 15 games in to the season... But these people don't think about these things when they vomit FIRE EVERYONE!!!!! on their keyboards at night. The real problem being Harden (as Clutch pointed out in the podcast) is not something the average fan is willing to accept for whatever reason...
You can bring in a new coach, the Rockets didn't. Can and didn't are two different things. Just because the Rockets hasn't or won't do something doesn't mean the can't do it. And just because they haven't done it yet does not mean they won't in the future. Why do common sense things have to be constantly explained to you people? For God's sake it's been 3 games lol.
You continue to misquote me. Please explain the point of that? Trying to confuse the truth in order to win an argument on a forum is pretty low.
The FIRE MCHALERS simply wanted the team to be better. They forgot that everyone everywhere wants their team to be better. The chant should not have been "FIRE MCHALE," but "HIRE X." That was too challenging though. Every fricking poster on this board obviously wants the Rockets to be better. "FIRE MCHALE" was a pretty crappy plan (actually there's no basketball plan there). This summer's recruiting season could be very painful indeed. What if our roster gets worse? Dream gone! At least we helped fire a guy
Because everyone *ASSUMED a senior 1st class head coach would be brought in to replace McHale. But by several reports, Les is being tight with $$'s which is why this hasn't happened to everyone's surprise? * ASSUMED/ASSUMPTION - Mother of all f@#$ ups!
I thought they'd go with Chris Finch as the interim. I suppose there's still a chance of that though the way it's been going so far with Bickerstaff. Permanent, JVG would be nice. Seems like the type of guy that doesn't let any player, no matter how much of a "star" (Harden) get away with anything. Players would be held accountable.
Well you can make that 4 games. Remarkable what JB was able to accomplish with all that practice time. Memphis coming in on a back to back and first option not playing....JB had the boys ready, LOL. But at least JB stands up when coaching....that should be worth something.
He's just a mini me of Mchale. No difference in strategy. Sticking with players that ain't getting the job done. Same old thing....?. The Rockets are in the penalty EARLY in the 4th quarter and instead of telling the players to attack the basket, they continue to jack up a bunch of threes even though they're not going in. No movement off the ball, just standing around jacking up bricks. He also has a love affair with Brewer just like Mchale. He's getting torched by Courtney Lee the entire 4th quarter and makes no adjustments. Brewer stays in the game while continuing to shoot badly. Also Dwight struggles down the stretch and Capela continues to sit. NO ADJUSTMENTS. Just doing tbe same thing that doesn't work over and over again.
morey pitched to les we can save money on one yr of mchale contract by letting JB coach but les won't allow the losing, les will have to spend pay 2 coaches then morey will be on hot seat fasho
According to new coach JB "our goal is to simplify"....this was his post game assessment after three days of practice time and another horrible home loss. Sounds like the adjustments are to simplify.....but we were told McHale never had a system, never had plays, never... Surprising to learn that his system was too complex.
benching lawson we can debate about. but playing brewer most of the 2nd half was without a doubt brainless. countless bricks and turnovers (how do you travel on a 1 dribble breakaway???) and got absolutely torched by courtney lee on the other end. JB was pathetic tonite.
"Fire the staff" should have been more like it. If they had already tuned out the leader of this current staff, there's no reason why the players would listen to these guys. Rockets are making a big mistake by not making wholesale changes. Need someone in here that will instill some discipline and hold guys accountable.
