What can the Rockets get for Daryl Maury? A first round pick maybe? I'd even take a couple of second round draft picks.

A gm has never been traded but a first rounder. He would have to be interested ofc in the team and agree to the trade. Good thing the Rockets arent idiotic enough to give him away.

I'd say trade him for some cash just to get him off our books. Maybe a 6ers top pick if the 6ers actually value Daryl.

I'm too lazy to think this through but let's say KD goes to Golden State..

What would we need to do to get Klay Thompson and (maybe) Harrison Barnes?

Not sure how exactly Batum would require a king's ransom but Gallinari wouldn't. Placing that point aside, I don't disagree. Gallinari is a fantastic scorer and an extremely difficult matchup...when he actually plays. He's as injury prone as they come, though. That and the Nuggets have him locked in on a fair contract, whereas Batum is a free agent this summer.

Disagreed completely on McDermott. Especially, in the context of a McDermott vs. Batum discussion. The whole point of pursuing a player like Batum is because of the minimal risk factor. You know exactly what you're getting with him. No, he's not the true stretch 4 that everybody covets, but he can get minutes at three positions and plays solid two-way basketball. And he's a winner. This team badly needs some backbone. Some smart, unselfish and motivated players to come out there and breathe some fire into this bunch of softies. Batum could be a guy that changes the dynamic here.

Again, this all stems on Charlotte nosediving and Batum's numbers leveling out. If these two things occur (very likely) and he makes it clear he intends to leave via free agency (much less likely), it could be a situation worth keeping an eye on.

Yeah, that's true. McDermott is a horrible defender at the 3. That's why he should be a stretch-4. He'll never be able to defend 3's. But he could keep up with a lot of 4's, especially since practically everybody is stretching at the 4 right now.

You're not going to find a better offensive fit as a stretch-4 than McDermott. He can shoot it obviously, but he can also handle, drive, and kick. And because the Bulls are being stupid and trying to play him at the 3, he just might be available, since they have so many 4's. We need a guy like McDermott at the 4 for us, playing 30 minutes a game.

Bev, Jones, Brewer, Dekker for McDermott, Noah, Bairstow, Felicio. Throw in picks to even it out.

(This trade may not be possible but it's going to take something drastic like this for us to have a shot at contending for a championship this season. This team, as currently constructed, is not championship capable. We do not have enough shooting nor do we have enough defense and rebounding to get there.)

McDermott is a terrible defender at the 4. They tried him some there last year under Thibs and it was a disaster defensively. They have ran him at the 4 a lot in practice this season and it has been equally as bad. They have also played him some at the 4 this season with bad results.

I also don't know if the Bulls are interested in moving him. Paxson and Foreman are stubborn.

If the sh$& ideas in this thread are any indication, it's gonna be a rough go at it trying to get even minor upgrades.

If by the Dec 15th (trade season opening day) the Rockets haven't bounced back I suspect that Morey will be blowing up this team drastically from a role player standpoint, but at that point it's essentially going to be given that the season is toast and it's time to prepare for next year.

The Rockets, when they made the switch to Rudy T, were sort of in the same boat and actually almost made the playoffs anyways that year with better late season play that helped get the offseason on the right track and a huge next year for Hakeem.

I think that's more likely that trying to exchange parts. I think you'll see Morey desperately try to unload Brewer and possibly Ariza. More PT for KJ. Bigger role for the DMo and Capela front line. I believe THAT is the foundation you need to look to build around along with Harden. Unfortunately I don't see a long term future around Dwight and Harden, and I think Harden is too talent to let go. You gotta keep him, and put the right pieces around him. Dwight, and Lawson.... not working out. Try to get more picks if possible in aforementioned trades, and flexibility for Summer deals to groom new talent, or later flip into solid veteran role players like Battier or Scola's from prior years.

Trading for a guy like Gallo right now when the season is toast just doesn't make sense at what it will cost. With all the parity right now everyone has a chance to win big this year. Even the Nuggets. Nobody is moving major pieces for chump change. However adding a player like Ariza, and maybe Brewer to help a team out with a title run actually makes some sense.

It's insane that I'm already talking about the potential to needing to rebuild but it's close to being a reality AGAIN. What a shame. However a re-tooled team around Harden, D-Mo, and Capela could be done with Morey being aggressive and assuming he can move the contracts of Brewer, Lawson, and Ariza to get it done. What happens with Howard moving forward is the bigger question. My guess is they keep trying to make the Howard/Harden duo work for better or worse which at this point is looking like wasted effort.

    Separate note:

We need to start looking at what options there are for trading Lawson. At this point, is there a team out there that would give up a 1st round (lotto protected of course) pick to make up for what the Rockets gave up for Ty?

I just don't have much hope for him fitting in, and as a 6th man type, you could do so much better in value with so many other players alike that probably play better defense as well.

The non-guarantee on his deal really helps I assume, but at the same time that could kill the deal as I'm sure his agent made the deal with the hand shake deal relying on him not being dealt. Maybe him being benched will help them open up to accepting a deal to start elsewhere. But either way we need to start thinking about how we are going to recoup that pick if we are looking to deal him, and looking to shed salary as well.

    Houston gets: Gordon, Jack, Young
    Brooklyn gets: Holiday, Anderson
New Orleans gets: Lawson, Joe Johnson, Jones, Houston 1st

I think this could go through possibly.

That's not the problem with McDermott at the 4. The problem is that Pau Gasol is a terrible defensive anchor. That means Chicago has a lot of defensive pressure at the other 4 spots because there is no rim protection once their opponent breaks them down and goes to the hoop. Only when they insert Noah for Pau does that change. But now they've got Pau starting in the middle.

You put McDermott next to Dwight and Ariza at the bottom of our defense and he'll be fine, he'll look good.

How in the world are the Rockets absorbing THIRTY TWO MILLION in salary and only sending out 12? You know the Rockets are hard capped right?

Also you do realize that they point of sending out Lawson would be to recoup the losses of the pick they gave (instead you are suggesting we GIVE another pick), and to shed salary to acquire talent this Summer?

And Jack is terrible. One of the most anti-Moreyball players in the league. Gordon is likely gone in the offseason (duplicates Harden but not as good), and Young is not Young and is due more than forty million bucks over the next FOUR years. This is exactly the type of move Morey would be doing to opposite of.

Highway robbery for us. Casspi would improve our rebounding. Can you believe that? Not to mention his shooting.
