Davis is probably going to get $20+MM/yr, maybe closer to $25MM. If the team could sign him for $$ and get Fernandez for prospects, that would be an amazing offseason. Resign Sipp and find one more bullpen guy and the team is loaded.
Meh, Davis's dismal year in 2014, plus his suspensions, would not get me too excited to spend that type of money on him. Still think lefty help in the bullpen is our highest priority, followed by backup catcher. Wouldn't be surprised if Luhnow decides to roll with Valbuena at first, with a sprinkling of Singleton and AJ Reed to see if they can emerge as stars (at a much more affordable price).
The Marlins have certainly traded quality/young/promising players for a lot less reasons than attitude. I'd take a higher ceiling Jared Cosart on this team... I think Dallas/Correa leading by example is quite effective, to the point that they could have a biggio/bagwell-like effect on the clubhouse.
Mostly due to TJ surgery/recovery which overlapped into this year. I actually would look at the less-taxed/surgically repaired arm of a 23 year old as a good thing.
And is one of the absolute best pitchers in baseball under club control for several more years. If you have opportunities at MVP or Cy-Young caliber players, you go get them. That's how you go from good to great. And they are generally pretty easy to trade if you change your mind down the line.
McCullers may very well be a better pitcher than Jose Fernandez AND without the me-first attitude. From the ESPN link
Hmm... he has issues with a front office that decided to put its GM as a manager (who had never managed at any level anywhere before... basically it was as if Luhnow decided to become the manager). Hmm....
I would be willing to wager he'd find the clubhouse here far more agreeable; Colby Rasmus set a historic precedent to stay in this clubhouse. It has a heavy Latin influence (I'm guessing Fernandez might find that appealing) and it looks all the world like a young, fun bunch of guys.
Crappy attitude aside, everyone should be jumping up and down about even the idea of adding Jose Fernandez to our roster. Considering age, talent, and cost, he may very well be the most valuable starting pitcher out there right now (maybe Chris Sale due to his team-friendly extension). Jose Fernandez was historically good two years ago before his TJS. Obviously we should consider that very TJS as a risk, but all pitchers come with risk. And yes, his attitude issues should be considered, but the kid is 23, and plays for a team that has a history of treating their players (and fans) like crap. So I can very well see one of the Marlins' best players have a negative attitude against that front office. Remember that Stanton was also pretty critical of the front office and Loria. I also feel that Boras is in Fernandez's ear just a little. Boras has been very critical of the Marlins (for obvious reasons), and from what I understand, he and Luhnow have a respectful and professional relationship. So I am thinking that his attitude problems might be overblown, and I also agree that our clubhouse could really help. I think Jose Fernandez could really enjoy Club Astros. I would offer just about any prospect not named AJ Reed, and a potential rotation of Keuchel, Fernandez, McCullers, McHugh, and Fiers would be absolutely fun to watch, and just killer in a playoff series.

Attitude is a concern, but yeah, I wonder if its a change of scenery thing. It's not like he's busting off on NYY management. It's MIA. They have a history of terrible player relations. Shawn Chacon aside, there are worse things than having a cocky a-hole on the mound. I think you kind of need that attitude. Granted, not towards your own team. That rotation would be filthy. We have the organization depth to make that sort of rotation happen. Would be okay with parting with something along the lines of Appel/Velazquez/Daz or Kyle/ Fisher...
This guy is one of those filler writers that have become so common online nowadays just pumping out stories in his basement.
Between him, Carlos Gomez, Springer, Correa, and Altuve There would be a ton of young energy in the stadium LOL.
