Former Denver Nuggets' player Ty Lawson entered a guilty plea on Thursday in connection with a suspected drunk driving incident that happened in January.

Lawson pleaded guilty to one count of driving while ability impaired and failing to drive in a single lane, according to Denver County Court records. Charges of speeding 25 to 39 mph over the speed limit, driving under the influence of alcohol and careless driving were dismissed.

The point guard was arrested on Jan. 23 on suspicion of drinking and driving. Lawson was stopped at 1:19 a.m. while traveling 61 mph in a 35 mph zone on Park Avenue West in Denver, according to a Denver police report.

The officer noted that Lawson's speech was slurred, his "breath had a strong odor of an unknown alcoholic beverage, balance was swaying/stumbling, eyes were bloodshot/watery." He refused to submit to a chemical test and was taken to the downtown detention center.

Lawson, who had been with the Denver NBA club since 2009, had attended a charity event downtown at the Punch Bowl Social on Broadway.

He was traded to the Houston Rockets over the summer.

In July, Lawson was arrested in Los Angeles for suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol. Lawson was pulled over after an officer spotted him traveling "at a high rate of speed."

That same month, a Denver judge ordered Lawson to submit to continuous alcohol monitoring. Lawson's attorney also said he completed a rehabilitation program in California.

A sentencing hearing has been scheduled for 8:30 a.m. on Jan. 14, 2016, in Denver County Court. Lawson faces a sentencing range of probation or up to 180 days in jail.

Wow... Up to 180 days in jail was the part that caught my eye. Hopefully it's probation and he can put this behind him. Amazing how destructive this sort of thing can be to pro players. Hopefully he has the message because if he happens to get past this another screw up and it could end his career.

No way he gets 180 days. More likely, 2 months of community service.

If he was playing like a basketball player a suspension would suck. A suspension right now get s a huge shrug from me.

Rubio would have been 10000x better at this point considering what weve seen of Ty.
